Thoughts on a shotgun preference
Once again we have been looking to buy a 12 gauge, but with my wife being a lefty and me being a righty we are having trouble figuring out a good one for the both of us.
She is worried about the ejection of the shells hitting her in the face using a right handed gun. Any thoughts/suggestion other than buying 2 guns?

Easy One,
Browning BPS Ejects empties out the bottom, modern version of Ithaca model 37. ( Actually a JMB design in the first place) 12 or 20 depending on use, 12 more versatile, 20 just a joy to shoot and carry. Expanded comments on request! Regards, ... |

The Ithaca model 37 has the smoothest action of any pump I've tryed.Loads and ejects from the bottom.

One of those Australian or New Zealand models from that movie where the guy banded two double barrels together, configured to fire four rounds at a time........ complete with quick reloading tool.

I'm left handed and I don't recall ever being hit with a shotgun shell. I have a Remington 870 and a Winchester 97.

Any shotgun is better than none.

Not sure what my wife is worried about, growing up had the 870 and my dad is a lefty and i'm right handed. He never had any issues as well.
I know a while back she was hit with a casing and had a(minor) burn on her arm. |

I'm right-handed but always felt more natural left handed with long guns. Never, ever experienced a problem with shotshell ejection. (Mossberg/Remington/Benelli/Franchi/Beretta/Winchester)
On the economy end of buying two seperate guns, one of the recent Savage/Stevens 12 gauge security models is an Ithica clone (bottom eject). |

For both right & left handed shooters, a Mossberg 500 has the safety on top within easy reach of a right or left thumb. Right side eject. Never had any issues of being hit with expended shells with the 2 lefties that have shot mine.
A Browning BPS or Ithaca model 37 ejects from the bottom. Can't remember where the safety is on these models. |

BPS and Ithaca have the safety at the back of the trigger guard. It's set up for either left or right, but is reversible. How well I know... I'm a righty, little brother is a lefty.
