Bitten by the Rolling Block bug.........
After my $$ situation improves, I might consider the Uberti 1871 rolling block in .45-70, with vernier sights of course.......

Good choice, for slow deliberate shooting.

When I was a youngster I always wanted a falling block action. Not a big enough fan of Ruger's to have ever bought one. Then I started into assault weapons & it's seems to suit me better.

Uberti uses Pedersoli barrels on their Sharps and Rolling Block rifles. Both brands make very nice guns.

I used to have a Ruger #1 Tropical, in .375 H&H Mag.
270 gr. bullet, doing 3,000+ FPS is an awesome projectile. Like many high powered rifles, it's not a real 'pleasure' to shoot at paper targets. It WILL take down any big game on this continent. Including 'giant' Jack Rabbits. |

I have an old 7mm roller which shoots great with cast bullets. It has patina and won't win any beauty contests but it is fun to shoot.

My dad owned a Remington with Danish writing on it. It could fit a giant German yaghatan style bayonet on a massive bar on the right side of the muzzle.
The block was shiny as chrome, no handguard and the bayonet had what I think was an auxiliary sight on the barrel ring opposite the guard on what would have been the top if it was mounted beneath the barrel in more typical fashion. I think either the bayonet was for another rifle or meant for many designs. It was a Solingen in a leather sheath with a metal tip and throat. When together it was about seven feet long and perfect for spearing a cavalryman from the ground unless he was a lancer, you'd better just shoot them. I don't know the caliber but the bayonet always got more attention than the rifle even though it was in nowhere near as good condition.
