Scoping the AK..a couple ways to do it. Side mts & top covers

I ordered these from Kalinka Optics Warehouse, in Coral Springs Florida...just a couple days ago.. And got them today. It is their BP-02 model of Mil-Spec scope mount.

They are a mil-spec, made in Belarus, centered over the bore, LOW, picatinny railed, scope mount that fits the optical mounting plate/scope side rail bracket on all Russian, Bulgarian, Romanian AK's, etc. (Note* AK's ONLY. The SVD style found on other com-Bloc rifles is different)

These are VERY well made and worth every cent of their $50.00 purchase price. I have had and used these before and used to sell the earlier "offset slightly to the left, in the Russian style, scope mounts.

I will have more pics of it mounted on various AKM's.

I got one of those and also a Kobra red dot from Kalinka back in 07 or 08.I was in the pre buy group on the Kobra.Damn fine red dot scope for $219.

I have the original Soviet BP-02 side mount.

Probably the same plant that made it in Soviet times.

I have mounted these mounts on two different AKM's and the gap between the top cover and the scope, directly beneath the scope rail is about 1/8". CLOSE...just the we we like it and dead center over the bore.

My rail is on a thin breach cover & not centered very well. I would love one of these. I went to the link & I can't seem to figure out the mount. Do you need a dove tail on the side of the rifle to mount this. My AK has no side mounts like the sks.

Yes, You would need a scope side rail bracket mounted on the Left side of the receiver. It is possible to retrofit one...depending upon: What kind of AK/who built it? Fixed stock? Under folder?

They are of very high quality, will maintain a close zero... after being opened and closed... and allow a decent piece of glass to be mounted to your AK.

If you are using one of those top cover mounts...there are better ways these days... Quality does not come at a hot dog's price though...

The mount in the last link looks very robust. I little pricey, but you get what you pay for. I will let you know how it works out.

I bought that exact same mount from Kalinka last year & put it on my Saiga/Arsenal SGL31 AK-74. Very sturdy & robust it is: a tad on the heavy side but it looks like it can take a lickin & keep on tickin. The quick release feature is nice, too. My previous optical mount was secured w/ 3 Allen screws...not so "quick".

I have looked at the mounts with "set screw" attachment. I do not care for anything that requires me to carry "extra" tools, in the field. Tools can get lost...There is JUST enough room to R&R the top cover without pulling the mount off the rail. However. The consensus is that the THIS type of mount can be removed and re-installed with minimum, to none, change of zero. Ridged, is a good thing with scope mts.

Have you tried it on a Saiga 308?
I can see no reason it would be different than other AK's

Kalinka lists the Saiga in the info for that mount.

They sell the side rails too, if you need to add one to a AK.

I have one on my Saiga 308. These mounts are the real deal and return to zero when taken on and off. The only other mount that is worth a shit is the one from KVar and it's about $110. The Texas Weapon Systems one look to have promise though....
