Aimpoint scopes?

Anyone have any experience with Aimpoint 4 MOA CompML2 Sight? Or, Aimpoints in General? I am considering one for my MP5.

I have some experience with Aimpoints CompM4 and CompM4s. And own a couple. They are excellent red dot sights, and built to withstand just about anything you can imagine. With one AA battery the battery lifetime is 8 year switched on! The dot has visible and night vision settings, and it is waterproof to 150 ft. The temp range is -50F to +160F. So that should cover most places you might bother to visit. They are a bit heavy though at 350 grams including the mount.

Which is why a lot of police and military are moving to the Aimpoint Micro T1. It does pretty much what the larger CompM4 does, in a small/light package. Ok, the battery life is a bit less at 5 years instead of 8, but does that really matter? It also can not be submerged below 80 ft, but I doubt that is a problem for most people.

The CompML2 is a great sight too, but it is their older technology so it needs new batteries every year. I think it came out about 12 years ago.

One thing is for sure, just about all testing I have heard of proves that Aimpoint beats Eotech in reliablity and longevity. Their customer service if anything should go wrong is also known to beat Eotech.

I just ordered a PRO model a few minutes ago. My first Aimpoint. Been looking for a while. It is inexpensive enough to fit into my cheapness category.

I agree with EricD I had the M4 on my AR, and the M2 still rides the Galil, there great sights.

I had a comp 2 on another gun, now have the comp 4 on my .300 Whisper. I went with the Zeiss Z-Point on my MP5K. I could be wrong, but think it smaller & lighter the even a mini Aimpoint. Price was very good IMHO.

They are excellent sites, and you can almost treat it as a non-powered site because the battery life allows you to just leave it on and not worry about it. I got rid of mine for two reasons. First, the dot was to too large, but I was using mine on a rifle. Should not matter on and MP5.

Second, and this probably will matter to you, unless your cheek is on the stock, and you have a fairly consistent cheek weld, that dot can be hard to find. In one situation, a night shooting carbine course, I had to shoot around barricades from a position of almost total darkness, towards a partially illuminated target. I could not pick up the dot for for several seconds, and was frantically wiggling my rifle around, trying to find the right angle to pick up the dot. You can't see it unless you are looking straight into the tube, and if you cant see the tube, or are shooting in an unusual position, that can be a lot harder than people imagine. Since you might shoot the MP5 with the stock closed, I can see this slowing you down.

I switched to an Eotech. It doesn't have the batter life, but you can easily see the reticule in any position, from any angle. Its much faster than the Aimpoint for this reason.

I have two CompML2 4 moas. one on my AR and one on my 74. They are fantastic scopes. The batteries last forever. My 74 has had the same batteries in it for 11 years and they still work. The dot is bright even in the brightest sun light or if it is dark it dials down to a tiny pin point. They are easy to sight in and they hold zero. The way they, mount even if the dot is not working you can look through the scope and still use the iron sights. The 74 mount is an ulitmak and my AR is a try-lock.

Have the same and used them in the Army as well.Like em a lot better then the EOTECH reticles.

Hmmm... I had considered it for and ordered it for MP-5 use... But after reading the posts here...It sounds almost like overkill. Perhaps a less exotic and less sophisticated sighting system is indicated for them. Suggestions?

I expect the Aimpoint ML2 would crown a Russian AK74SU quite well...

I tend to think of the Aimpoint ML2 as a close quarters combat sight...thus was going to mount it on a SBR, MP5.

Now I am not sure....I just know a lot of folks seem to be Aimpont fans....

Zeiss Z-point is German, smaller & just a bit cheaper in price. Quality is still up to Zeiss's name.

Aimpoint Micro T1 is Swedish, is smaller and lighter, can take more of a beating, yes it is slightly more expensive in price, and quality is still up to Aimpoint's name.

That's also true if a scope or even iron sights should get broken. But the Aimpoint is about as close to being a 100% reliable sight as any made. I haven't heard of any getting broken and the rifleman still being able to fire the rifle. The battery cap for mine carries a spare battery. But I'm still on my first battery. I can't remember how many years I've owned mine.

I do have flip up iron sights on mine in case something would happen. Not really necessary for me though. I don't plan on getting in any firefights in the near future.
