Marlin 336 Modifications.
Well,
I never liked the pistol grip style stock on my Marlin 336. I took it apart and after looking at it I realized I could convert it to the Marlin "Cowboy" style without needing any parts. So after a couple hours with the band saw, belt sander and torch this is what I got. Here is the before picture... |

For the lever I just did a little blacksmithing..
I just heated it up with a torch and used a tube to apply pressure from inside the loop to get it almost there. then I heated it again and used the hammer and T-dollies to finish it up and smooth it out. |

A big + 1 on the conversion, I have one in 35 Rem. and I think that will be a future project. The straight stock makes all the difference.

Looks factory to.Good job.My first deer was taken with a model 94 in 30-30 with a straight stock.Wouldn't want a pistol grip on a rifle like that either.

Purpose of the pistol grip is to help control cant. Not a big deal on a 200-200 yard deer rifle. Always liked marlins, never especially liked the PG versions.
Looks to me like you might have solved my biggest gripe about the Lever actions, that being a lever with too small an opening to get my hands in, especially with gloves on. Main reasson i like the various Russian designs, they are all usable in winter. Excellent job Sir. :: Regards, |

Good job. I never cared for pistol grips on Marlin lever actions either. They might be functional, but I just don't like the looks.
