its currently so hot here in Central Texas that bees are having a very hard time their wax is melting at the current temperatures.

I grow my own basil and bees love their flowers, there is probably 20-30 bees around the basil all the time, actually that's the bee picture I posted the other day, by the time basil puts out flowers it's already too big for good flavor but I'm letting the bees have a shot at it before I replant, it's too hot to do it now anyways.

Have you tried deep frying it when it get too big?

Fried basil? no, actually I've never heard of it, we make our own pesto and I use it on Caprese salad (tomato, basil, mozzarella olive oil etc), on pizza and whatever I can put it on but I never thought of frying it. That's not Italian. Mamma mia!

Just looked it up...must be a southern thing.

Real big money on honey bees here in Fla. people who raise them and rent the hives out to the orange groves each season. $$$
Without Mr. and Mrs. bee you would have NO O.J. in the morning. Imagine breakfast with no orange juice? Yuk.

Most of that information on honey is completely new to me. Thanks for posting.

Not too long ago there was a lot of concern that honey bees were getting displaced by other species of hornets, wasps and Africanized bees. I'm not seeing any of that around here. Yeah... We have a lot of wasps and hornets but I still see lots of bees.

I don't think we have too many orange groves anymore 4th, that fruit fly killed the business and they all sold the land to developers. I remember Hwy27 was oranges up and down from Palm Beach to North Florida, not anymore, Last time I drove up it was one city after another and houses, car dealerships, shopping centers, everything is developed. Even I sold a large tract of land to a client up there in Felda, it used to be orange groves, they turned it into a mulch processing place.

Yup Vero Beach was the epicenter of the orange trucks hauling out. Damn it was one truck after another with O.J. plants galore. Hell all the way to Melbourne orange groves.
Then the drug dealers started buying the groves the bugs started eating the frost freezing and I have not been their in years to see.

Take a trip down 27 and you'll see. I freaked out the last time I did. I remember going up on 27 60 years ago and you could even smell the orange blossoms in the air. Nothing is left. There are just a few places now but it was oranges for as far as you could see, remember the Orange Tower or whatever it was called? you could get up there and see it all. Times sure have changed. Now we import oranges from Israel which are grown in Cuba I understand.
