Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default I've been backpack camping for the last few days

I took minimum equip and camped on the Au Sable river NW of Grayling Michigan. I left my phone in my car. It's nice being away from everything but nature.

I always felt I was born 200 years too late.

When I was younger I did a lot of backpacking down in the Red River Gorge area of Kentucky, in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Beautiful natural rock formations and arches filled with all sorts of wildlife and flora. Did a lot out in New Mexico as well. Now I'm lucky if I can walk 4 or 5 blocks without being in bad knee pain. When I get a new set of knee joints I plan on getting back on the trail.

Sounds like you had a good time. It's great getting reacquainted with the Great Outdoors.

The temperature is getting pretty close to right for that.
Lows in the 40s the next few days.
Fire up the 1968 Dunhill with some "Carolina red flake with Perique" and a flask of bourbon at the fire.
Squirrel Cacciatore simmering in the cast iron dutch oven.
Ruger Single Six still warm.
God Bless America, I need some time off.

What?
This is the time for your first!
My daughter is closer to you up there, I'll have her hold you hostage 'till I get there.
I'll bring a few extra pipes and bourbon.
My daughter is in Pellston, an hour north of you.
Hold tight, she just looks very aggressive and probably wont hurt you.
I'm 3 hours south and should be there soon.
I'll pick up some well marbled ribeyes too, skip the squirrel.

My idea of camping is Holiday-Inn.

It's not ready yet. I'm working slowly on it. It's a hobby, not a job.

Sounds like a good trip. The only camping I do anymore is at civil war reenactments, sleeping on the ground with nothing more than a wool blanket regardless of the weather. Can't really call that enjoyable. More like simply surviving the night.

Did my share of backpacking trips, really prefer canoe trips. Some time back a buddy sggested we go tent camping & backpacking & told him my Thermorest mattress has served me well, but the ground is out of the question especially in any dampness.

We tent camped on about half the safaris I hunted. These were rather nice setups with big vinylized military tents bigger rain flys. Fly out front had a tabled & chairs. In back were bathrooms with flush toilets & hot showers. The walls were eucalpytus saplings like a stockade. Water was pumped into a tower & gravity feed into a boiler. The tents had real beds & bedroom furniture. The first couple nights were unnerving for the sounds. Had snow one night, like wi get in Houston, but sleep fine.

Sometimes I sleeps on the ground, and sometimes I like to be elevated..
