Should be an ideal deer rifle out to 200+ yards.

The HE and willy peter rounds were entertaining. The shotgun rounds....not so much.
Good thing the 40mm cannon rounds the Cobras used would not fit into the bloopers. Otherwise we prob would have blown ourselves up. Boys will be boys.... . |

Toward the end of my first tour...the site was being turned over to MACV and the MIKE Force Yards, were supposed to become RFPF.
My battle buddies and i put many cases of 40mm HE rounds for the bloop tubes in a jeep...went to the south end of the runway and blasted everything in sight. Fucking wasted everything in range....for hours. Boys will be boys. Blowing shit up was better than a blowjob from Jane fonda. A much BIGGER boom came a week later when we blew the retrograde that was in our ordinance bunker. Took @ four hundred blocks of C4...to initiate the rest...godamn! That was something. There were lots of 155mm HE rounds and propellant bags..moarter bombs, folding fin aircraft rockets, etc. Plus a LOT of det cord. Shit was raining down for minutes after that. I watched from a bunker. The CO set it off. The old times were the best times. Now.....way to slow and shaky to even touch any HE anything. But.... I could still get wood over popping off with a thumper. Have not even had Ma Duce...out of its storage for a couple of years. With no more Knob Creek MG blazing....I have to travel over 100 miles for a bang fix with it. To unsafe to bang it here.... |

When I concidered the cost of mine it was very cheap compared if I was to buy a mortar. A reasonable priced mortar might have had me work hard to buy one. |

Thinking about going this route instead of buying a new rifle for deer hunting.

Watching as a now deceased friend, reloaded rounds for one of his tank's cannons...think 30-06, but scale it waaaaay up to like the projectile was say...four inches in diameter. And the powder was being poured into the shell by counted cup-fulls...and your getting an idea.
Sadly I passed up on buying a 37mm anti-tank cannon years ago at the Creek. Lacking a good cleaning up, the removal of pounds of cosmoline from the bore, a good pressure wash &repaint, etc....AND....the later hunt for a breechblock...that was transferable or even a dummy. Should have nabbed one. There were four to choose from and my dually's bed was empty. I even had a tarp that could have been used to conceal it from public view. I fucked up. Prob would never have shot it....but....it would have made a great tow behind Jeep accessory. |
