My kids gifted me this little coffee maker last Christmas for my backpacking kit, and I've been using it in the house for when I want a particularly strong cup of coffee.
Basically, it is a one-cup sized French press. Some folks claim it gives espresso like coffee, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it that - just strong coffee. Funny thing is, there is a cult following around this little coffee maker on youtube. There are even coffee making competitions using it. Enthusiasts heat their water up to a certain temperature (below boiling) to get what they claim is the perfect cup of coffee. I did try it with some pinyon coffee we've been drinking that brews up just too weak for my taste in the Mr. Coffee. No matter what I do to make it stronger, it just doesn't happen, short of leaving it on the burner all day to evaporate and concentrate. I thought maybe the Aeropress would be a good way to get a stronger cup of this blend. Yeah, it made it stronger, but just up to where it should have been to begin with. Some roasts are just not conducive to making a strong brew. This morning, I did a test using coffee beans that were bourbon infused. First, I ground up two scoops (the included scoop with the kit) and brewed that up. Made a nice, strong cup of coffee. Then, for my second cup, I tried with just one scoop - made just as strong of a cup of coffee. So, my conclusion is 1 scoop is just as good as 2 for this particular coffee. Cleanup is fast and easy - no muss, no fuss. The kit from Firebox the kids gave me: https://fireboxstove.com/product/coffee-kit/ The Aeropress: https://aeropress.com/products/aeropress-coffee-maker

A Vietnamese coffee dripper makes a great cup of coffee & takes up less space in a pack.
