Outdoor shoes indoors, or not?

If I go to someone's house and they want me to take my shoes off because they just had the carpets cleaned...cool, I'll take them off. But, if I got to someone's house and they want me to take my shoes off because of some fucked up custom dating back to the old world? Nah, I'm turning around and leaving.

But if I do take my shoes off, you better hope I'm wearing socks. Because I have some fucked up looking feet and toes. And don't get me started on my toenail fungus (thanks Marine Corps).

in my house theres no need to take them off unless they are super muddy or something,,it's a country home with hardwoods through out along with dogs,dog hair ,dust ,a few cobwebs and dust from the woodstove in winter and the road in summer.
we keep the bathroom and kitchen clean but the rest is pretty lived in

Shoes off. Wasn't a big deal at my old house where I had mostly oak wood floors, but with carpet the wife expects shoes off unless they are indoor only slippers. No cats or dogs inside either. Can't stand animal hair getting into everything.

White people always offer to slide them nasty or dirty shoes or boots off at the door. Its why we keep a bench and a molded rubber place nearby for them to go. Most newer homes do not have a mudroom...I grew up in one that did. I have one right here. Clean shoes come in the front door. There are mats outside and in, there, to wipe shoes off on.

That reminded me of another one. I visited a house, and they had guest slippers outside the door for everyone to use. Not washable though; everyone reuses the same skanky slippers that others have used, and that their dog walks on while waiting to be let in.
