Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

I have a Marlin guide gun in 450 Marlin (just a belted .45-70). I do not find the recoil an issue.

I had a Springfield trap door carbine, US Cavalry, and fired tons of rounds through; the old Naval Lyle guns used 45/70 blanks and it used to be had at 'giveaway' prices, the stuff made for the Carbine has a C stamped on the head of the case...a hoot to shoot for sure...Friends of mine had Gatlin guns in that caliber but I never got to soot them but Dave Cumberland of 'Old West Gun Room' in El Cerito, CA brought his to the last cannon shoot and ripped up the range with it.

45-70 recoil:

1. Original lead load: mild
2. 405 grain jacketed FN loaded to 1350 fps for Trapdoor Springfield (Rem. factory ammo): mild
3. 300 grain modern loads (Winchester): mild

4. Hot 400 grain grain jacketed loads at 1800 fps for Marlin: Painful and difficult to control recoil. Scope might hit your forehead.
5. Any Buffalo Bore ammo: Painful.

45-70 performance on deer:

I have shot several deer with the 45-70 Marlin using 400 grain Speer at 1700 fps. The bullet expands rapidly and causes a lot of damage. It is way more power than a deer needs and I suggest a Trapdoor Springfield load instead.

My kid shot a deer with a Browning 45-70 loaded with a traditional lead FN load. The recoil was light and wound channel was moderate. It was just right.

For deer I would also consider the 300 grain Winchester factory ammo.
