Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default If You See This Invasive “Miracle” Weed, Don’t Kill It, Eat It

Quote:
Purslane is medicine, not a menace. It’s also a culinary delight making its way into farmer’s markets and fancy restaurants.

Purslane is one of many weeds in your garden that you might not want to kill. The super-food beloved by Ghandi, is now making a comeback in farmer’s markets and fancy restaurants.
It “sprouts from sidewalk cracks, invades gardens and earns contempt from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which classifies it as a “noxious weed,” the Chicago Tribune reports.

It’s also “a miracle plant,” Dr. Artemis Simopoulos told the Times.

Purslane is somewhat crunchy and has a slight lemony taste. Some people liken it to watercress or spinach, and it can substitute for spinach in many recipes. Young, raw leaves and stems are tender and are good in salads and sandwiches. They can also be lightly steamed or stir-fried. Purslane’s high level of pectin (known to lower cholesterol) thickens soups and stews.

Purslane may be a common plant, but it is uncommonly good for you. It tops the list of plants high in vitamin E and an essential omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Purslane provides six times more vitamin E than spinach and seven times more beta carotene than carrots. It’s also rich in vitamin C, magnesium, riboflavin, potassium and phosphorus.

I used to see it all the time in the Dallas area but I haven't seen any here in north Louisiana.
There is another plant called spurge that looks very much like purslane but it is poisonous so make sure you can recognize the difference before you eat some.

Gots to be kidding me.

I have that stuff all over here. I reckon I'll have to give it a try. Well, actually I'll get my son in law to try it first. Just in case the article is wrong.

And by the way, certain varieties of Portulaca look like Purslane, too.

Most of the weds in my yard have needles on them.....some thick and corse...some small and fine

you need a heavy pair of leather work gloves to pull them.

That plant grows prolifically here. Hit it with a weed eater and everywhere a leaf lands a new plant will grow.

I use to pull them up and try to keep them out of the lawn, I finally gave up.

I have it in front of my house, but I'm not eating it as it is growing where the dog always pees.

No wonder it is also known as "Pig Weed" because the pigs love it.
