Hi Standard pistols
Any experience with these .22lr pistols?
On impulse, i just bought two, an older Model B with the recoil spring retention button on the back of the slide and with the take down lever on the left hand side behind the safety, and a Model GB with the take-down button at the front of the frame and removable barrel. Both are nice condition pistols, but the safety on the model B is iffy to say the least. It does not engage when the pistol is out of of battery, and the switch (lever) is loose when in battery. Pushing the switch up engages SAFE and indeed the pistol will not fire, but the lever is loose enough to drop at the mere hint of disturbance, thus taking the the pistol out of SAFE mode. As yet, I have not ventured beyond basic inspection i.e. removing the slide (very different operations one model from the other), and have not ventured into the guts of the guns. I'm by no means a gunsmith, nor very mechanically minded; in fact I am quite 'cack-handed' when it comes to machinery and my stiffish, skinny little fingers are quite clumsy with tools. So...with all that, is this something I should mess with, or just try to find a handy (and hopefully, not too expensive) 'smith in the area?

Rick I read Hi Standard is now based out of Houston Texas. Having grown up in the shadow of the company in Hamden and at least one of our family mics working their it was known as a quality gun company.
As kids we grew up in the middle of gun heaven. I am reading where they supplied our military during WWII plus the OSS as boon stated with weapons so that says a bit good about them. Your weapons may be a bit old? So clean em up get em working and do some shootin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_S...turing_Company

For a while Hi-Standard knock-offs (actually, very respectable, well made copies) were manufactured by a company called Aimco, Tim. I have one of theirs N.I.B (unfired) that I bought through the Houston Gun Collectors Association (with whom I am no longer associated) maybe 20 years ago - HGCA was sponsoring them and I chose mine to be serialled HGCA-001, and for no extra had my initials (all 3 of 'em...no, not R-a-R) engraved on the frame. Very slick looking.
The rights have now been bought by another Houston Based company - I'd forgotten that. Just checked and they have a website...and an address not a million miles away in the Big ugly...and they advertise service and repairs. https://www.highstandard.com/index.php Problem solved...especially as it seems I am on speaking terms with one of the bigger wheels in the organization. Thanks for the reminder. |

I've shot more than several and would have been proud to take any of them home. Me being the way I am, I always thought that the owners valued them much more highly than I.

Be sure to only shoot “standard velocity” never High velocity or the hot CCI
Lots of little things in a HS can’t be replaced/ found so if something is wrong, find a gunsmith before you lose that part.. My preference is the old HD Military with bull bbl |
