Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

I got mine from the CMP for $600, and I built my tanker from a parts kit for around $750.

Lately there has been quite a few rifles for sale at the CMP Forum. There was a Garand for sale for $500 including shipping about a week ago. I think alot of people bought rifles last year and the bad economy is catching up with them, so they're selling their recent additions to pay the bills. Sad state of affairs, but a Garand lover could get a great rifle......and help a brother out.

Very nice.

There are 3 barreled receivers for sale for $250 a piece...but I think they are all sold....how difficult is it to put one together from a barreled receiver?

I have built FALs and AR-15s.

I ordered from the CMP in Feb. 2009, and recieved a CMP special, and a barreled receiver around 15 July.

Got the itch again and ordered a field grade in Dec. 2009, it was at my door 32 days later.

So wait times are shorter than last year.

That Springfield Armory Field Grade cost very little more than the SOG M1.

I say go with the CMP, you won't be sorry.

Kind regards,

Here is mine. I ordered the best receiver they had at CMP several years ago. Then I found all unissued parts (except for the stock) from various places. I ordered a new Boyds stock and refinished it myself.

I think I'm going to find some blue material for a background prop. I don't like how pink the red turns out.

No, I don't believe so. I didn't take any pictures when I built mine. The only tricky part is setting the head space. The rest is just assembling it.

I learned how to disassemble and assemble from the Army.

I don't know if anyone here has taken pictures of assembling one or not.

How did you set head space on your Garand?
With the FAL its easy....locking shoulders and go n no-go gauges....I got so good at it I could set a tight head space or a loose head space.....tight seems to be more accurate....loose cycles better.

Setting head space where a go gauge allows the bolt to just close unrestricted is what you want.

To tight is no good, won't chamber right, too loose is dangerous and a little on the dumb ass side. JMHO

Receiver to barrel timing can be a bigger challenge than headspace.
however here is a resource that answers some questions.

Installing and Alignment of an M1 Garand Barrel
Without using undue force, screw barrel on receiver by hand until it fits tightly. The receiver should be approximately 15 degrees out of its correct position on barrel to insure a tight fit when final draw is made in the carrel and receiver assembly fixture. Clamp the group in the barrel and receiver assembly with three clamps, tightening the lower clamp first to level receiver. Slide key, located on the indicating arm of the fixture, into the upper gas cylinder spline cut as far as it will go. Pull on the lever, thereby turning the barrel the required distance to bring the indicator to agreement with the qualifying line on the fixture.
Barrel installation is not complicated, however if the barrel is more then 15 degrees as mentioned machine work is required.
