I lucked out a few years ago and got one in VG+ to Excellent condition, all Matching nnumbers on everything. Figure it's value at about $650+ now.
A. The narrow hard rubber butt plate was NOT a good idea. B. My zero does wander, but for the first 2-3 shots (and more) are plenty good enough for whitetail hunting. Just not impressive on paper. C. There IS a right way and a wrong way to load Enfield stripper clips (don't ask how I found that out, I won't tell!). D. Great little "keepers". E. You did good! F. Probably have to settle for either canvas web sling, but you won't be wrong. G. I've been looking for the right original bayonet at a rational price for 6 years now, no luck so far. With bayonet I figure I'd have a $900 or so package. Good Luck. Regards, |

There was a dealer at the same gun show that had a real (not repro) bayonet w/scabbard for sale for $100, but you had to purchase the $500 carbine to go with it.

You're welcome.
Just one suggestion. I may be wrong, but I believe the hooks on the sling ends should be to the inside. The rivets on the metal tabs tend to be sharp and may scratch the stock. At least I've found that to be the case sometimes. They'll work either way though. Now you just need the bayonet, but as you've seen, the real deal doesn't come cheap. Enjoy!

I don't know which way the hooks go. I just followed the example in the photo of yours.
However the front side of the brass plates are smooth whereas the hooks are rough. The plates look better facing out than the hooks do. I'll get a bayonet for it too, as I am a patient person. It is on my list of things to find at upcoming gun shows. |

My No5 is my only Enfield lacking the correct bayonet. Guess I need to search the cupboards as well!

I bought that #5 bayo along with a F-S 3rd pattern dagger & a beaut little puma hunters pal (1960) from a bloke that I dont like for $100. If he had been a decent fellow I would have paid him twice what he asked, but as it was, I just considered it personality compensation.
