Question Forestry clearing saws.

Do any of you use clearing saws? Unbelievably, I was able to wreck my previous one, a Jonsered, by filling it with regular gas... I use 20 liter cans of "Aspen" chainsaw fuel, and it turns out that someone (I suspect my mother...) filled an empty one with regular 95 octane leadfree gasoline. Probably to fill up the lawnmower. She denies it... Although it could possibly be one of the guys from the moosehunting team that might have borrowed an empty one for a generator. There's no way to know, let alone prove anything. Since I filled the saw from one of the usual 20 liter cans, I didn't think to smell if it was the correct fuel... So that was $1200 down the drain...

I'm looking at these:

I'd go with Stihl. Their chainsaw & weed whackers rock. Husqvarna are sold @ the big box stores I hate!

I have a Husqvarna chain saw and I had a Husqvarna pipe saw, and I would probably get a stihl in the hope of better performance in the future. The pipe saw was a fucker to start and not all that powerful even though it was the biggest one they make. The chain saw is ok, but not as powerful as I would expect even though it is the entry level professional model when I bought it (not the lesser homeowner line).

Husqvarna was my very favorite chain saw, at one time. It went 'South' when my friend borrowed it and lost it off the bed of his short flat bed truck. Never to be seen again.

He replaced it with two other chain saws, but by then I was ready to quit cutting firewood.

Now I have one, (that I've never used) that I acquired in a trade, with a long bar.
Dang thing must weigh sixhundred and forty 'leven pounds.

Knew a guy with a Husqvarna dirt bike. He was always eating my dirt. He pushed that POS a lot too! He started bringing a length of strap wanting someone to tow his ass, everyone just laughed at him while rutting up dirt, rocks & mud at him while he pushed.

Eric if your wanting to enter a log cutting competition get a Husqvarna. If yah want to work and cut wood all day, hands down a Stihl.
Jonsared is good also but a Stihl is the diesel locomotive that just keeps tickin.

I couldn't agree more. Stay with a good servicing dealer. You'll probably spend a little more, but it's worth having the folks with the expertise to work on them.

They're all good saws, but what so you like, Ford or Chevy?

Your Jonsered is a good saw, too. I know a lot of foresters use them.

Yes, buy it from a dealer not a discount store. Myself I'm partial to Stihl or Echo.

Eric, I had the same thing to me once when I had a Lawnboy lawnmower. One of my boys filled the 2 cycle gas can with straight gas. I found out when the engine locked up.

I bought a Stihl FS 90R string trimmer earlier this year. Usually starts on the first pull and that 4 cycle engine is very quiet compared to a 2 cycle engine.

I ended up with the Husqvarna 555fxt (with heated handles for cold weather use). Mainly because the nearest professional dealer (which I've used a lot before) has Husqvarna, and I'd have to drive substantially further to the Stihl dealer.

Ah hell the Husky is a great saw Eric. You got a race horse on yer hands. Keep it clean, tuned and it will cut half of Norway down for yah.
Are yah still mad at yer Mom? Moms never ever lie, bet she did not do it.

I had read somewhere, recently, that Husquavarna is also the maker of Jonsenred saws.
