Back from the Georgia woods
Got a little 72lb doe, but choked on a buck that was at least 8points....he was skittish the whole time, but at least a little meat is in the freezer again.

Did you hear any banjo music while hunting?

Yessir. That little doe might taste a little better than that old buck, anyhow. I've found that it really just depends on who you ask. Some say that the age of the deer makes no difference. Some say that it does. Personally, I used to zap a younger fat doe before I would shoot an old buck.

Nope, but his ass was scanning the treeline for human presence....kinda unnerving, his gaze almost landed on me until he started poking around for eatables but he was poised for a rapid retreat. Heavy foilage permitted a tiny window for a snap shot......buck fever.....shoulda woulda coulda. Nothin' wrong w the rifle as I thought. Wasn't his time.

No shame, D.S. All hunters have contracted "buck fever" from time to time. Some poor guys never get over it and are afflicted each year .

Congrats! 72 pounds isn't anything to sneeze at, in the eating department.

I'd say that the age of the animal makes a noticable difference. I'd much rather eat a moose yearling or calf than an old bull or old cow.

Damn! Y'all are kinder than my hunting pards! As expected, I caught a double ration of shit.....all out of love of course. Everybody gets humbled periodically, but I was simply the latest goat.
