NOW I wish I had bought a couple dozen, way back when.
I was biased, back then, regarding com-block stuff of every kind. |

Excellent!! I have a Gordon Tech SLR-100H (Hungarian kit and Burgarian receiver), which is as close as I'll ever get. I love the old school look. ...milled receiver, muzzle nut, wood stock, etc. It shoots as good as it looks. Looks right with a drum too! Note to self: I need to get a couple of those slab side mags!

I bought a Polytech Hunter at a show back in 2008. All my other AKMs have sheet metal receivers.

Good Show!
Sold the AK types I had before moving back 'west' but the 2 Russian mades, My beloved VEPR on .308 and my Saiga (sporter original config) in 7.62x39 are the 2 last long guns I'd ever part with. The VEPR ( really more a semi-auto RPK then an AK is capable of M.O.A and the Saiga about 2 M.O.A. needs a lot of getting used to the trigger, and some day I'll scope it for the usual 1/3 reduction in group size. As far as Russian QC on firearms, every bit as good or better than U.S, just their designs didn't call for high polish finishes and fancy wood stocks. Function first, bells and whistles later if and only if absolutely necessary. For those who weren't around in the fifties, , the Russians kicked our butt regularly in the International matches, and they did it with accurized Moisin-Nagants. and 7.54 mm cartridges. Regards, ... |

Cool. I've got one milled AK and that's a Yugo I resurrected from a milled parts kit and a pair of repair plates.

Very nice pair!
No AKM or even beefed-up RPK-style receiver rifle shoots as smooth to me. The heavy milled original design soaks up the mild recoil of x39 perfectly, my opinion only of course. One question on that Type II since I doubt I'll ever eyeball one up close. Bottom tang correct? And attached only to the metal mid-section between the receiver and butt (or does it actually extend from the receiver itself)? I've saved pics over the years and searched some images before asking. Considering Type II is rather obscure and desirable I'd think pictures would be available to answer the question, but I haven't found what I'm asking. |
