What have you done this month to prepare 11/15
I didnt do as much as other months but got a couple extra propane tanks.
Updated my reloaded and kit supplies. Working on a better jerky recipe in the dehydrator. Had to buy the wife a new car a week ago so funds were diverted a bit. Emergency radio and water purification tablets. |

Have approx. 3000 150 gr. FMJBT bullets. Have had most of them for awhile now. Picked up 400 Hornady bullets in the last couple weeks. I use the 150s in all my 30 cal rifles. M1 Garand, 1903 A3, 30/40 Krag, FAL, 300 ACC BO. Can't use them in my M1 Carbine though . Finally getting off my fat butt and getting reloading done. |

built a couple window mount LP heaters that will run off 20lb tanks. i can mount them in any window of the house if there's a long term outage. picked up two more 20 lb cylinders to bring my total to 14. been buying five gallons of ethanol free gas and kero every two weeks. gonna try canning some sausage this week. i bought five pounds of Neeses sausage to try out the process. my brother in law is a member of a large hunt club that's full of hogs and i want to be able to take advantage of any pork that may come my way. my nephew was here for the weekend and we cut, split and stacked another load of firewood yesterday.

- Bought a water purifier good for making 500 gallons of water, plus..
-Have a gazillion fish I feed off my dock everyday.. Bream. -Filled a box with batteries, all types. - Buy extra canned goods every visit to the store.. - Colder climates, store lots of firewood. When you think you have enough, store more.. - Lots of rice stored. - Whole forest of wood here so cooking is not a problem.. - Have enough ammo for the Chinese Army.. - Really do not care if the electric grid goes out.. Hell civilization did fine with no electric for a few thousand years.. Hospitals, and some will be in bad shape without power.. But most will have to learn to survive without it.. - Security. My buddy Killer the pit bull lets me know if anyone is around.. He is really not a killer, even the neighbors poodles beat him up, but he barks. Survival forums are going viral.. Learn how to salt your frozen meats like they did in the past.. Barter will become the norm.. Keep small items to use as barter.

Reloaded 2k of 9mm,working on 1k .40 S&W.I'm not stopping hoarding until I can buy a brick of .22's at will.I havent seen any for months, maybe longer. Why arent the ammo companies investing in new tooling? I dont think the demand will ever decrease.

This month? Leaf clean-up, bulb digging, bulb planting, over-wintering some tropicals indoors. Still mowing too, temps have been perfect for last month's seeding.

Picked up a two bottom trail plow for my tractor at an auction for $75. Finished replacing 700 feet of field fence as well.

New for the month, broke out the snow shovel. Haven't bothered to use it yet but it's handy now. Just in case.

Well I have pretty much prepped until the cows come home. Up at the ranch I put in a winter garden and one at the house too. Carrots, Cabbage, Beets, kale...that sort of thing. also built some poly tunnels so I can grow things that are not happy with frost.. It takes a lot of veggies to keep you going...especially when the SHTF. I question the nutritional values of much of the freeze dried shit people prep with. Not to mention the damage it will do to your guts...changes in diet eg going from what you eat today to that freeze dried shit will fuck your gut up. If you can best to get a few chickens each bird can produce up to an egg a day and is an infinite source of protein...That along with Potatoes and a few other root crops could keep you going. One thing few preppers think about is stocking up on the following 3 items. Kosher Salt - you can cure just about anything with it. Never use Iodized salt. Pink Salt Sodium Nitrate #2 Salt also Sodium Nitrate but in a different ratio than above. Without the 3 items above you dabble with all manner of bacterial that could kill you. Botulism is a real danger and few preppers think about AFTER their stores run out...you shoot a deer then what? you going to waste 90% because you didn't prep Kosher salt and nitrate? With the 3 items above and proper storage in a root cellar you can have food in-between hunts. You also should store seeds and learn how to grow things year round in your area. If you know how to make polytunnels you can grow food year round in most areas of the country. Also I think many preppers do the go it alone routine and they are the ones that will die the quickest. There will always be a group bigger than you out there WROL. You best defense is to group up with your neighbors if not town. Live together die alone will take on new meaning for many who think they can go it by themselves. Everything is easier as a group....Not to mention what is going to happen to the lone wolf types...mentally your noodle will turn to mush out there in the hills by yourself...man is pack animal...like it or not. With a group you will fare better overall. Be able to defend your locations better longer and have to move less frequently. There will always however be groups BIGGER than yours...best to cut and run if you are out manned out gunned. Always better to live to fight another day then die trying to defend dirt against one sided odds. |

Hey Duck.
Sorry I haven't been on here in a long while. I like all you wrote. We use kosher salt but I'm going to store a couple 6 gallon buckets with it just like I've done with beans, rice and pasta. I've never played with the sodium nitrate. Gonna have to look into this. My gardening has been a lot of work. I give any and all food to my mother in law pretty much and I'm just trying to get to where I'm able to sustain a healthy garden. So far it's been a mixed bag. First off all my plants get heavily attacked by various pests. The bugs chewing the green leaves are the worst. I need to look into an organic pesticide. The natural predator (ladybug) route probably won't work well for me as they would all leave after I harvest the small garden and before the next planting comes in. I have had to kill the Iguana population that destroyed my entire winter planting. I cannot grow onions or potatoes. I don't know why and haven't researched it. Soil here is kinda poor and I have a test kit for soil but haven't used it as I have 6" of cow manure soil. I grow weeds like crazy. Actually weeds would be easy...I grow grass and entrenching Florida crab grass. I noticed they slowed way down this winter and I left the "not from around here" weeds that sprung up with the store bought topsoil. I think they outcompete the grass somehow...as hard is that is to believe. Florida grass is pretty tough stuff. Watermelon did not grow either. I do grow tomatoes and beets/radishes very easily. The bugs don't even touch the radishes at all. I grew some corn and it grew beautifully until it was completely consumed by bugs. I grow yucca (cassava trees) which are a healthy alternative to potatoes once the cya.nide is leeched out. I don't know why I can grow no subterranean veggie just yet. I have a smoker and dehydrator which would allow for fresh meat (when available) to stay unrefrigerated for a week or more. Well actually in use that's not entirely true. Smoker is propane so it works all the time but it's for hot smoking which produces a beautiful succulent meat. I don't think this meat would last a week out on the counter. Not enough smoke in it. People tell me cold smoking is the meat that can sit out and be just fine but Ive never tried cold smoking. I understand it takes days to do and always involves heat below 90 F. The dehydrator is awesome and I leave beef jerky out over a week and it's just fine but it runs on electricity so a generator is crucial equipment to keep that operational. I can (jar) meat fairly often and it sits in its jars in a dark area of the house. I worry about possible botulism from those as it's the perfect breeding ground but I process the meat according to the USDA guidelines. |
