Firefox Update Will Kill This Sneaky Tracking Techniqu
There are all kinds of ways that advertisers try to track you online. You already know about cookies, but did you know you can be identified by the fonts that are on your computer?
It's a form of what's known as browser fingerprinting. By probing your browser for various bits of information -- like your screen resolution, time zone, interface language, what plug-ins you have installed -- you can actually be identified with a high level of precision. http://www.forbes.com/sites/leemathe.../#723ba0f439d6 I need to spend more time keeping up with computer technology. Can't get past the ad block warning on forbs.com. Piss on them, then.

I used to have Adblock Plus and Forbes would always tell me to turn off the blocker. Now I'm using uBlock origin and don't have a problem with that site.

I use a Mozilla add-on called self destructing cookies. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...cting-cookies/
You can whitelist any website that you don't want their cookies destructed (such as this forum) by choosing "never", or you can have them automatically deleted after leaving the website by choosing "after you close the tab". Usually a website loads a lot more cookies on your computer other than their own cookie. I use this so that I can read the Washington Post as many times I want per month. Just deleting their "Washington Post" cookie won't clean all of the cookies they load on your computer. They also load on trackers. This Self Destructing Cookie add-on will wipe out everything their website puts on your computer every time you leave.

I've looked into and tried several cookie handlers, but I'd still rather not let them on my systems to begin with. Most work instantaneously and they do their reporting/damage right away.
I have had just about zero adware/malware/other virus problems since instituting that policy. Brian |
