Front sight removal S&W AR 15???
Holy sheeeeet so I get on YouTube and follow the instructions for taking the pins out of the front sight on the S&W AR for sight removal.. Left side beat it proper punches proper AR block proper punches proper every damn thing.
I have been beating on the damn thing for a half a damn hour it barely moved. So I go too the S&W forum. A member posts. "I have been beating the dog piss out of these pins and I have a cousin who works in a nuclear plant I am ready to go nuclear any suggestions?." Anyone run into this problem?????????? Thank you in advance.

I don't know if it would help or hurt, maybe run 100 rounds through it to heat it up a tad.
My brother tried removing the pins in either a Colt or Saco M16A1 barrel and never got them to budge. |

I went over to the local Ace and ran into a guy who dabbled in guns and he suggested heat also. These damn pins just do not want to move.
Damn I hit the damn things a hundred times and they did not budge. |

I haven't done it on an AR, but I'll usually just drill out a stuck roll pin. Start with your smallest drill bit, and work your way up. It will eventually pretty much fall out.

The pins are tapered. That's why they can only drive out one way.

I've never installed a FSB, but I do remember watching the Brownells video talking about the tapered pins.

If it was just me with my limited mechanical abilities I would understand. But in researching the internet I am not the only one having problems in removal. In firing the weapon that area considerably heats up I wonder if contracting and expanding locked them in their for life? |

If you are wanting to eliminate the FSB, machine it off. S&W must have their own unique methods. |

I would but I have to disassemble the upper to change the upper receiver as it has no dust cover or forward assist. Replacing it with one that has both.

O.K. update on this one guys.
So my neighbor Marine Lee, Pogo met him, owned a machine shop and is one of those guys yah hate cause he can fix anything. Gave him the upper and in two frigging minutes he had those pins out. Damn Jar Head.
YouTube, gun forums, S&W forum hell even the block I have to hold the front side in has explicit lettering on it for holding the front sight and its removal "left to right." Well wrong it is right to left which would be hit the tapered pins on the right "dust cover side." Two damn minutes he had them out. Now the S&W must be unique I guess cause every bit of research I gathered said left to right on the AR sight removal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIDb7CZkfQ4 |
