Deer Drought is over!
Just back from the Georgia woods, with meat from two does, 95 and 101lbs respectively. Took them with and old sporterized Swedish Mauser. One shot was only 25yds, the other was 55yds. Both were taken in creekbottom areas and were feeding off of pinnoaks. Time for a shave now!

Good deal!
We haven't seen many around this fall, which is strange. It's opening day here and usually their moving around. Last year I got two right here in the yard. I may not even get a license this year. Brian

Thanks fellas! The largest one had one yearling with her, and I had to wait until she presented a shot without risk of wounding the little one. 45 min later, two more little ones came back to investigate why mom was still bedded down. (lung/backbone hit, dropped like a rock) Thought briefly about taking another, but figured they'd breed more for us in the future.

Deer season in the east is a whole lot different than in the Southwest!
I had 5 days to get my deer, in an area probably larger than the state of Connecticut. If you don't fill your tag in that time period, then tough.

Nevada was kind of the same problem.
The area biologist made the harvest determination and the length of the season. Anywhere from two weeks to a month. But, IF you had a tag (draw system) then you were real dumb if you did NOT fill it. |
