The dogs
The dogs hurt themselves just before the big snowstorm. They were chasing a rabbit or feral cat at night, along the fence and both of them hit a tree well and tweaked their hind leg.
Well, they weren't getting better, so we took them to the vet. Vet diagnosed both of them has having blown out their knee. If they don't get better, they can do a knee replacement for $2,000. Dogs are 5 and 2 yrs. old. The younger one is slowly getting better. Hopefully the older one will start to show some progress. They are both on special weight loss diets and are not allowed to play or run. That is very difficult for two high energy dogs -- the Australian cattle dog and a catahoula/lab mix. I'm going to put them on some liquid horse supplements ( a liquid blend of glucosomine, MSM, hyluronic acid, and condroitin) and see how they do. They are getting Absorbine liniment rubbed in twice a day to provide a little relief.

Both dogs came from rescue organizations.
The Australian Cattle Dog was spayed when she was only 6 weeks old by the place we got her from. Our vet was furious about that, because it did not give the dog time to develop normally. Her bones are longer than normal and more frail - she is 3 inches taller than what is normal for her breed. She never developed nipples. She is more susceptible to cancer and lung diseases. Those are just some of the problems that not allowing a dog to develop normally can cause. It's really a shame because she is the sweetest dog. I'm afraid she won't have a very long lifespan, and will break my wife's heart. Contrast that with the other dog, who we had spayed at 6 months, and developed normally. |

Awh hell those pups will be just fine without no knee surgery. Hell animals in the wild hurt themselves all the damn time and nature heals them.
Make them pooches take it easy for awhile and you will see. They will be fine.
