Stuck cases...

I keep getting stuck cases in my FL resizer. I am decapping/resizing 7.62 nato brass, so it's thicker walled than normal .308 and takes a little more effort in the press to size.

I got Hornady one shot spray, and got a stuck case a few weeks ago. It's a lee die, and I broke a steel punch trying to get the case out, so it's stuck good. I thought what happened is that I didn't give the spray quite enough time to dry.

Yesterday I get a replacement die in the mail, and this time I am using a little more One Shot than before, and letting it dry for a few minutes before running it through the die. About 30 rounds in and I've got a stuck case. Pisser.

So I'm going to send both these dies back to lee to get the cases removed, but this reloading thing is getting to be more expensive than it's worth.

I was spraying some one shot up into the die as per the instructions too.

So either this stuff is crap, or I'm completely retarded and doing something wrong, but I don't think so.

Can anyone recommend a lube that will NOT result in stuck dies?

Also, the brass I am resizing has been ran through the tumbler. I am NOT running dirty brass through the resizer.

RCBS lube pad, oiled well and roll the brass upon it.
The only ones that will stick are the ones you do NOT lube.

I had a 223 case stuck in my decapper/sizer yesterday. Had to pound it out, but I did get it out. It was lubed, but it was also a non brass case (aluminum ?) that slipped by my initial inspection.

I need to make a lube pad. I've been spraying the cases which works okay, but I think I waste a lot of lube doing it that way.

That's what I use. Haven't had a stuck case, yet.

If you can drop some dry ice down the center of your die into the brass, maybe that will shrink the brass enough to knock it out. Warm your die first, with a Mapp or propane torch, then drop the dry ice in.

*Disclaimer: I never tried this. I've seen it used to get races out of hubs, though.

Sounds logical Sanders. It works for pressing barrels into trunnions where the fit is just a hair too tight. Freeze the barrel and warm the trunnion.

There is a cup made of hardened steel that fits over the bottom of the die. The cup has a hole in the center of it and what you do is drill the primer hole out to 1/4 unc tap size and run said tap into the cartridge and then using the cup and a 1/4 inch allen screw proceed to pull the stuck case from the die. Clear as mud? I think it was a RCBS kit, too many years ago to be sure now.

I read, no need to lube if using carbide..

4thIDvet: You are correct, carbide dies do not require lube. However, since he's sizing necked rifle cases, there's a 99% chance or so that he's using a traditional, non-carbine die. Most carbide dies you run across are for straight-wall cases (.30-carbine, .44mag, .45acp, .38spl/.357mag, etc etc).

Exitwound: Sounds like you had an experience with that awful Hornady one-shot similar to mine. I've tried two or three cans of the shit, and I get stuck cases out the wazoo. Total pain in the ass. I threw mine away... couldn't think of a single soul that I wanted to curse by giving it to them. I use Lee paste wax, it's good stuff. Been using it for years, never had a stuck case. You just smear a light film on with your fingers and size the case.

Did you clean the brass good before resizing? I've used both Hornaday and Lyman sprray lube and have never had a problem.

I used to use the pad with sizing lube but it's messy and slow. I tumble my brass until it's shiny before resizing.

I've only tryed the Lee case lube.Works for me on the 30/06 and .308 brass.

Can't help, never had a stuck case, even when out of lube and using a very thin smear of parrafin.
