Truth be told, treat it like bullseye and you could probably pull it off...if ya do the old 'start low and work up' routine. Not that i'd try. mind you, but in extremis it would work.

Eons ago when I was a flight instructor, I used ask my students, "What is an emergency?" Each had an answer. The engine quits. The gear won't come down. Smoke in the cockpit. Yadda. Yadda. I always smiled at them and said, "An emergency is any event you aren't prepared for." And that's really what it is, I think, in all of life. If you've already thought about it and figured out your best options, then you don't waste time with brain numbing panic or trying to figure what to do. You've already been there and done that. So you just take the best of your plans and do it. Same with one powder. I hope it's silliness to think that way. But what if someday it's not? Guess who will look pretty stupid? I chose 2400 because I know it will work quite well for all the guns most of us have. Especially if you're a cast bullet shooter. But I'm old school. There are several "new" powders on the market that I've never even owned a pound or tried. What are they? What can you count on them to do? Have you tried them or worked up any loads? That's all I was after with this thread. I'm not out to win over the world to my goofy way of thinking. I just like to see people think. Some never do. |

Lil Gun. I use it for magnum pistol and .22 Hornet loads. I suspect I could make it work in just about anything.
Actually I want to change my answer to BLC2. Because if it came down to only being able to get one powder, I'd already be down to just a couple of rifles and BLC2 works well in .223, .308, and 30-06.

Lil Gun seems to be one of those great new powders this duffer has never used. But I like slow burning pistol powders. They make great magnum pistol juice and tend to work wonderfully well with cast bullets in rifles...........which means a fellow can keep shooting for a LONG time.

I got to go with Unique! Desert Rat I love 2400 I use it for all my rifle cast bullet loads and it works great for my 410 loads but for my 45 colt and 12 guage shotgun loads and now that I will be reloading 45 ACP I really got to go with Unique as Unique will not do the rifle loads as well as 2400 will it will give me some loads. Only load I would be lacking is the 410. I know this is a one powder game but if it was two I could suffice on both 2400 and Unique for all my reloading chores. In fact I do now except I use some 4064 for my 6.5 Swede and condom bullets.

An exception should be made for the holy black as an extra because you need it for muzzle loaders but I would not want to shoot it in my other guns.
