spent a week on Hatteras Island
Annual fishing trip. Three charters, two days on the surf. Love that place.

Damn I miss salt water fishing after seeing flopshots pictures.
Plenty of fresh water here but just something about salt water is where its at. Flats fishing, inshore, off the beach surf fishing hell the smell of the ocean. Put your bait on and if yah don't catch what yer after you'll catch what's hungry that day. |

these three photos are of the two trips we took on Runaway. captain was a hoot and knew how to fish his boat. we limited out on Dolphin in 45 minutes then went for some deep drop at 900 feet with conventional reels. our mate, the kid in the red shirt has just graduated high school and one of the hardest working young men i've ever had the pleasure to meet. plans to work as a duck hunt guide this winter. we also took out the Bluefin for some Spanish Mackerel. got skunked on the surf but it was nice driving the beach and standing in the water. i need a week to get over the week

I'd like some of those red snappers to eat. Very tasty.

captain called them squirrel fish or black belly. hauled up from 900 feet. red snapper is illegal to possess. caught some golden tile along with them doing deep drop. i caught some vermilion snapper last year on a head boat but they're so full of bones they're not much fun to eat. the one red snapper i caught i had to let go. it's all good, with two trips we hauled in close to 900 lbs of Dolphin.

Vermilion Snappers are even tastier than Red Snappers. I also like Mangrove Snappers. I caught and ate a lot of those when I camped in the Everglades. |

i like the skin fish. dolphin, tuna, macks.... the squirrels were tasty but labor intensive the golden tile were great as well. next year we go for gaffer dolphin only to maximize the count per pound then go for yellow and black fin tuna. those smaller dolphin sure do put on a show though. would have liked to brought along some lighter tackle for them. if i ever dissapear from the face of the earth you will likely find me on Hatteras Island. real people and non commercial.
