The origins of Christmas are not pagan
I hear it repeated over and over that the origin of Christmas is Pagan but it is historically false.
This is dead on. I would change one incorrect assertion the word "Catholic" to describe the body of Christ first appears in historical writing not during the Reformation or at the time of Constantine either but in the year 110 in a writing by St Ignatius in a letter to the Smyrneans. He does not explain the term either so they all must have understood it. Anyway this is something for consideration. http://www.orlutheran.com/html/chrmas_pagan1.html FYI before you accuse me of peddling my religious belief I would point out I am not Lutheran. |
