Is it Time to Scope Out Scopes?
While I have some telescopic sights, I much prefer and do better with iron sights.

Dropped a Starling today from a tree 57 yards from my kitchen window using my Benjamin Discovery shooting a 14.3gr CPHP .22 pellet. Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x40 BDC.$179.95
I love my PCP.

I see room for various kinds of sights. It all depends on the situation.
Obviously a magnified scope is best when the target is so far away that you can hardly see it with the naked eye. Then there are times when a red dot is good for fast target acquisition. In the brush where a sight might get snagged on a tree limb, regular iron sights might be best. I also like iron peep sights for target shooting.

I think peep sights made the Garand such an effective weapon.

I like both but my eyes no longer like iron sights much,I had to retire my 30.06 because I can no longer see the end of the barrel through the peep sight,my MK 4 has a big ol hole for the sight and I can still use that one though,,my regular irons on the .22 I can still use pretty well.
I can consistently nail pop cans from 60 to 80 yards but I have had that rifle for 30 years,I could probably hit something with with no sights

Patrice shooting with no sights.
Point shooting or instinct shooting. With practice very effective out too a hundred yards with a weapon.
Military picked it up the the 60s for training troops. Things happened fast in the Nam theater of operations, up close and personal often with no time for sights. Bill Jordan, Col. Rex Applegate and Jelly Bryce, used their sights if the target was far away, but up close they used point shooting. Try it, it works with practice. http://www.americanrifleman.org/arti...oint-shooting/
