Aaah!
BUT, what is the bullet weight and what is it's velocity? If it won't go a minimum of 14" in gelatin I aint interested. If it'll expand and still go 19 inches, then I'm real interested. Regards, |

Thanks 10 Bears.
While you were looking that up, I found some more info, it's a Barnes bullet, loaded by PMC with a non-canister Hogdon powder. (means we cant buy the powder as individuals). Found this too: Now, better than a sharp stick for sure, and satisfactory to excellent in most folks view for Self Defense. But not for my use, here's why, referring to the pic. First three inches of Gelatin is about the resistance offered by human skin, so we'll just ignore the first three inches of track, it broke the skin. Human heart lies about 4 inches beneath the chest, with maybe a bone in the way, so under ideal conditions we're looking at the track 3" to 7" to reach the heart, and 7" to 9" to get through it! So we've got an inch or so in excess. On a perfect condition shot. Add a winter Carhart chore coat, maybe a heavy shirt or sweater, change the angles (target ducks and weaves, etc) and to my mind, usual problem with expanding bullets, everything just the way they were designed to work , SUPER! Anything else ... ummm ... not so good. Now add the fact that Self Defense means more than just two-legged varmints, there's always the possibility of the 4 legged kind too. Not just Cougars, bears and such, How about a pissed off moose or elk? Maybe a loose domestic Loose Bull, heck for that matter, who here has ever had the fun of trying to take a newborn calf, dropped in the field away from 40 or 50 milk cows, the kind that were never dehorned? And Feral hogs are increasing EVERYWHERE, and the big old boars can get ... touchy. No way ANY expanding .45 acp is going to get through the gristle plate in the chest and shoulders of a 400 pound and up pound Feral Hog. Fact is experience tells me you cant rely on a 230 grain FMJ 100% of the time in that case either, better empty the magazine and reload ... if you have the time. So ... not for me. but I'm sure a lot of people will see it as a good idea, and I'm equally sure we'll here some excellent reports on it's real life performance. Just not for me. As always, JMHO, OMMV and surely will. Regards, |

Lots of handgun ammunition of the 'premium' variety is over $1.00 per round.
Plain old Remington 240,JSP in .44 mag has been at or over for a couple of years now. 38 Spec, +P 158 gr, SWC hollow point lead is about $38 for 50. (As the best .38 SD load out there, it's also worth it! Good rifle ammunition will be pushing $2 a round by fall. Even without 'O' raising the tax, which he WILL do! Not long now until a dollar a round is CHEAP! Regards, |

That thing has to take up 3/4 of the case volume. No wonder they can't push it faster.
