Moon some guns only like one manufacturer and yours may be one of them but what ya can do is get some different ones and check to see what likes the best !! If ya don't reload then you are stuck with what ya can buy ,as 19 has said all of the distance shooters I know reload thier own and sometimes go as far as to count out the grains of powder that go in it !!
If ya have another gun ya can put the scope on to check it out and see how it works on that then you'll know if it's the scope or not !! I wish I could be more helpful but this is the way of long distance it's trial and error !! Let us know what ya find out because now I'm going to be thinking about for days !!!LOL

Moon One other thing to check is the mounting of the scope in the mounting bracket rings, years ago I learned the hard way it's best to use lock-tight in the rings that clamp the scope, I had one work loose one time and that was enough for me, learned my lesion, and I've never set a scope without using it sense.
Another thing that may sound off the wall to some, after I have a scoped rifle sighted in just the way I want it to verify the cross hairs are not in anyway hung up I'll rap the scope with a rubber mallet a few good licks on the bracket rings and make sure it's still dead on. If the cross hairs were hung up you will soon know and can make the necessary corrections. My old uncle whom I think is as good of shot as I've ever been around always believed in using or modifying scope mounting brackets to minimize the distance between the center of the rifle bore and the center of the scope, it makes a difference and if a guy thinks about it a second most will understand why. Heres the info I got from my buddy on 22-250, always double check any load information before using it, 55 grain Sierra boat tail hollow point, match grade H380 powder, 3,741 fps with 55 grain bullet, Sorry Gus, no powder charge's, thems the rules. Wow, this is a volume of information ! Thanks so much guys.
I see that GusB's formula calls for a slightly slower bullet than I'm used to. I'm used to rocketing the tiny projectiles out at 4,000/second. I wonder if that might have something to do with it. Anyway, thanks for all of ya'lls help ! I'll be working with this hooptie to see if it'll shoot straight at around 200y. |

My 52gn BTHPs only fly at around 3,500 fps.
They still seem to have the desired effect! |

ricciardelli,
Excellent post, and extremely helpful! Thank you for your outstanding contribution! It Is unfortunate that we can't allow any specific powder charges to be listed, and that rule is in no way a reflection on you or any of the other members. (with the possible exception of myself, because it's well known fact I am the undisputed typo king of all time.) It's rather a concern regarding the use a beginner or careless person might make of a published load, and the potential consequences. I'm sure most or all of our current members understand that a load must be worked up by the user for a specific combination, but with growth we're bound to pick up some inexperienced people. And we've all seen some pretty scary things at the ranges, especially at the "Sight in your Deer Rifle" events. I'm sure we've all policed up a few empties after such events that showed every indication of extremely high pressure. Then, when the shooter is questioned it turns out his "buddy from work" who knows "all about reloading" helped him reload some real powerful cartridges. (usually, but not always starting with the hottest load shown, and increasing from there.) My personal favorite remains the guy using a ball peen hammer to eject the empties from his M-19 S&W, who stated he'd just used the top load in the book, (from a a 15 year old manual), different primers, and a 185 grain bullet instead of the 158 grain bullet listed. He thought "One or two chambers might be a little rough," and maybe he should send it back to S&W. Ideally this forum and it's members can help suppress that sort of thing. thanks again for the post, it's a winner! Regards, |

What if someone asks for a black powder load for say a .45-70? Are we just supposed to say, "Oh, black powder will be fine."? When actually the second number is the weight of the powder...
Thimk abou' it... |

Let's hope nobody thinks the same way about the 30-30. Because the second number no longer applies, does it?
