Replacement FCG For SAR-1 Romy AK
I plan on replacing the FCG on my 2001 Romanian 7.62x37 rifle. After 10,000+ rounds the hammer & other parts are pretty battered. I've looked @ Red Star Arms & Tapco replacement sets for this. Anybody have experience lately doing this & can you recommend a good source?
I don't want to break the bank either with this little project. I paid about 400 bucks for this shooter NIB in 2002...I'm thinking under $100 for the whole deal. |

Btw: in case I didn't make it clear I'll be doing it me self. I'm the only gunsmith I trust anymore.

I like the Tapco. It comes with a sleeve so you can assemble the disconnector and trigger together before installation.
The G2 is usually available for around $30.http://www.midwayusa.com/product/799...47-steel-matte I actually put a double hook in my SAR, notched to clear the receiver until right after the break. Not sure that won't bend the receiver, but so far so good. I do also recommend getting a retaining plate in place of that shepherd's hook, but Midway seems to be out.

Thanks for the feedback.
I've found both the G2 group & retention plate on Egay for a good price. My Yugo underfolder has that setup & it's worked out very well over time. |

Don't forget to catch the disconnector spring from the old set... you will need that as triggers don't come with it.

Just a last thought: are you guys recommending the single hook or double hook setup? I noticed in Stoned Oli's link it was for the G2 Single Hook.

Given the price is the same I tend to go with the double hook and notch the receiver as necessary. Doubtful I'll ever have one hook break, but you never know.

Just for an update:
I ordered a Tapco G2 FCG & a Krebs Custom retainer plate to replace the old components in my SAR. Finally got around to swapping them out the other day & took the rifle out to my range today for testing. It ran great: put about 100 rounds of Golden Tiger FMJ through the pipe & it was a noticeable improvement over the factory setup it originally came with. $45 worth of parts made a nice difference. |
