Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

For the M1 Rifle (John Garand is NOT invent it, he may have perfected it, but the original design was stolen by him and he was sued, as was the US Gov't after the war. I guess "Garand" sounded better then "Smedley") the original powder was IMR 4895 (NOTE: H-4895 is NOT THE SAME THING!). Most target shooters still use this powder for most uses. I figure why screw with a good thing, although there are many powders that will work just fine as well.

There are some kinks and oddities to loading for the M1 Rifle, look up some of the stuff you need to worry about and keep the pressures in mind. There is an adjustable gas plug (about $40 from Dillon) that you might look into as well.

Remember to keep the rifle (bolt/op rod) well lubed and the pressures down so you don't bend/warp an op rod. Either/both (not lubed right or high gas pressure) can bend an op rod. Go look at the price of an op rod right now! Grease is cheap!

The original powder for all gov't loaded smokeless powder PISTOL cartridges in WWI (and I think WWII as well) was Bullseye. Unique is an excellent powder as well, and does an amazing amount of stuff well, it actually is unique.

Personally I use Win 231 (according to the Hodgdon website, Win 231 and Hodgdon P-38 are the EXACT powder, just different labels. ALWAYS go to the powder makers web site, Hodgdon in this case for both, and check ANYTHING that is claimed for loads/powders! That includes the claim I made above.) for everything except magnum pistol cartridges. For .30 M1 Carbine and magnum pistol I use Win 296.

Those three powders will do 99% of what I need done, and then there is Unique, 700X (shotgun/handgun), 5744 (cast bullet rifle everything) and the various other IMR powders.
