Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default Slicking up the Single Action revolver

I ordered two sets of springs for my Super Blackhawks from here: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/10...ckhawk-vaquero

There are two different sets - a 19 lb. w/ 40 oz trigger and 17 lb w/30 oz. trigger. I ordered the 17/30.

I'll let you all know how they do once installed. I already took my 5.5" bbl SBH apart and polished all the surfaces that contact each other. The spring kit ought to really put the finishing touches on that job.

Here's a video someone made of the spring install:

You gonna use vise grips too?

My AWA 1873 45 colt cowboy action gun has a real light crisp trigger pull with no creep. It's a sweet gun

I put a timney trigger in my Ruger 77 rifle

Post how you like it after the install.

I will post how it works out. I don't have a trigger pull gauge, so it will just be if it feels better to me or not.

Not that either of my Super Blackhawks have bad triggers - just that maybe they can be made even better. I've shot the older one so much that the trigger is quite smooth, and the newer one I smoothed out everything by polishing.

I'm thinking about putting one on my Old Army, but I would go with the heavier springs to make sure it strikes the caps hard enough.

I forgot to follow up on this.

Installed the trigger spring kits on both the old 7.5" New Model Super Blackhawk (80's serial #) and the newer 5.5" New Model Super Blackhawk (2008? vintage).

My older pistol was pretty worn in from shooting, and I could barely feel a difference, but there is a difference in trigger pull. I don't own a trigger pull gauge, so couldn't tell you exactly what it's at, but it is smoother and lighter. Combined with the Belt Mountain base pin, this old pistol is more accurate than it ever was - and it wasn't too bad before.

The newer 5.5" was really noticeable. I've been trying to slick this one up since I got it, after handling a slicked-up Vaquero that belonged to a Ruger sales rep at the End of Trail one year. I've been looking to replicate that feel. First I took it all apart and polished every part that rubs against anything. Then I worked Tetra grease into the parts. That slicked it up nicely - more like just smoothed it out. The trigger spring kit lightened it up quite a bit.

My oldest daughter was shooting it at Thanksgiving last year. I had a 100 round box of lightly loaded .44 Specials with 240 gr. semi-wadcutters, and she was bouncing cans and shattering clay pigeons on the ground from 20-40 yards with it.

So, if you want a cheap trigger job (~ $16-$17 from Midway USA and Brownells) this is a viable option.

Did you install a free spin pawl while you were at it?

I gave it some thought, but it has never really been an issue for me. Sure, once in a great while I'll miss a cylinder and have to go around to get it, but happens so seldom and I'm not shooting SASS matches, so I don't need the speed, that I decided against it.

One day, I hope to pick up a Vaquero either in .44 Mag or .357 Mag, and I'll probably do that mod to it, though. I shot my nephew's .45 Colt Vaquero he'd bought off a SASS guy that had it done.

Those hammer springs are a bitch to get in place.

Yeah, not as easy as those guys make it look in the video, but not impossible. Kind of one of those things that when it drops into place, you are surprised it was so difficult to get in.

Another trick on another video those guys put out, to lighten the trigger pull, is to just unhook one side of the trigger spring. I guess that is a cheap and effective way to do a quick trigger job.

It took me a while to figure out a way, I think I used the vise at one time to be able to get some sort of pin in and hold it compressed. I never saw the video, I learn as I work, then when everything fails I look for the instructions.

I posted a thread on how I installed free spin pawls in my Ruger Vaqueros.

If you lighten the hammer spring you increase the chance for a misfire.
