2010 Waterfowl Season
The season here in Ohio opened Saturday morning. It was a good weekend. The group I hunt with accounted for 10 geese and 15 ducks. Wide variety of ducks taken, Spooney, Teal, Black Duck, Redhead, Ruddy, Mallard, Pintail, Wood Duck. All the geese were Canadians. I accounted for two geese and a Teal. Of course it's not just about the game you take. It was great to be out on the lake and spend time with good friends.

We have a lot of big Canadian geese around here. I've never ate one. Are they pretty good tasting?

Actually I haven't tried goose, with the exception of goose jerky which was pretty good. Most of what I shoot is duck; which when cooked right is pretty good.
Some of my hunting buddy's take a goose, skin it out and gut it, then rub it down with salt & pepper, put it in a roasting pan with chicken broth then smother it with onions, celery and garlic and then roast it for a couple of hours until tender. They say it tastes like good roast beef. I plan to try the same thing this year with with a goose I breasted out. I'll let you know how it turns out. |
