Looking at .44 S&W magnum pistols - Page 9

After doing some trigger polishing I cleaned and added a light coating of blue LocTite on the screw threads to keep them in place. When my buddy Ed stopped over to see the new blaster and pop off a few rds. He suggested doing that also. He told my I was nuts, that the trigger did not need a damn thing. But, he also knows me well.

The guy who owned my Model 29 before me had a professional trigger job done by (I'm told) the best pistol smith in town. All I know is that it is smooooooth.

Trigger work is not that difficult to do. But ...you MUST be patient and have some skills in that area. It is work that I will not do except for myself just to avoid the liabilities.

Because Mr. Dow's post brought this thread back up, I re-read it. I had to laugh at some of the comments regarding recoil. I have .44mags from American Derringers up to Ruger 10.5" Blackhawks and S&W 10 5/8" Silouhette. My wife and daughter both shoot M29 4" regularly with out problem. (AssHole outdoor writers regularly refer to the 4" model as 'widely known to be one of the hardest-to-handle pistol known'). BULLASHIT My wife is 5'3" and my daughter is 5'4" both around the 130# mark and have no trouble handling it. I also have a 629 MountainGun with the 3" pencil barrel. I've used that in self defense and while I heard the report, I never felt the recoil. (There is a reason that the cylinder is 'unfluted')
The first time my daughter shot the S&W 10 5/8", she asked if I had changed the ammo on her as 'it felt like I was shooting a .357'.
No one is getting the frontsight from ANY .44mag hitting them in the forehead. .500S&W, 454 Cassull, maybe. However, it is my opinion that if you need something larger than a .44mag pistol, you should consider a rifle.

I'm not very recoil shy but my 4 inch 629 kicks like a mule with full power hand loads.

Back in the day, there was a gun liar, I mean writer, named Bob Shimek. He would always be shooting these 'hand cannons' and have a picture of a 7.5" Blackhawk, 'in full recoil', with Bob looking over his glasses at the end of the barrel pictured as having risen above his forehead. I have a picture of my wife shooting my 4" M29 'in full recoil' and I don't think there's 7 inches of muzzle rise.
I'm not saying a person could or should shoot them all day long like it's a .22, But this krap about 'front sight blade wound to the forehead' is
