I want to take a trip down Wildcat Creek in my kayak
But the water is too risky right now. It is a very windy creek with a lot of submerged rocks and old fence rows and trees that occasionally fall over in the water.
Should be better in about a week. The water is starting to go down.

I was cruising a local section of the Snake River yesterday.
Riding my ATV. Water down to the lowest it gets. I could see out, 30 to 50 feet of the bottom, in the shore shallows. Used to canoe that river, even with a 5 mph current, you could go upstream no problem. Just get closer to shore and there's practically no current. Downstream? Get in the middle and enjoy the ride. |

How much high than normal is that creek? Looks like it could be maybe three feet?

Probably at least 3 feet, maybe more. It's not a real deep creek. At normal stage it averages from 5 to 6 feet deep with a few quite deep holes.
When it gets like it is in the picture, you can get washed into an overhanging tree and get tangled, and your kayak or canoe will float out from underneath you. Many people have died in that creek after a heavy rainfall. |
