IMR 4831 - made in Canadia
I know Varget is made in Australia.
I purchased a pound of IMR 4831 to use in working up some 7mm Rem Mag loads, and noticed that it is made in Canadia. Do we make anything in this country, anymore?

Lot of powder comes out of out friends in the North's country Sanders.
Yes two companies I know of in the U.S,. St. Marks out of Florida here and DuPont out of Maryland I believe? http://www.gd-ots.com/commercial_powder.html They sell all over the world that Russian powder in our Russian ammo could be made right here in Florida. When our military gears up they drive up to the gate and stop ALL commercial sales. They say when they have enough. So so many regulations setting up a powder company it just is not economically feasible to build a new facility. Info from Dust Off Fred my bud and former employee.

St. Marks (used to be Olin) only makes ball powder. All the military IMR (Improved Military Rifle) powders like 4895 and 4831 are, and always have been, made in Canada.
According to Hodgdon, HP-38 and Win 231 are, and always have been, the same powder, just different labels. That is why I always get a kick out of the reloading manuals that list way different pressures and velocities for HP and 231 with the same weight of powder. |
