Trijicon Reflex sight
A friend gave me a slightly used Trijicon Reflex sight a couple of weeks ago. I've noticed that in certain light conditions, the little red triangle fades more than what I would have expected. For example if you're in a darkish room, aiming thru an open door towards a brightly lit window. Other than that, it seems to be quick to aim, and solid. But I haven't had a chance to try it out much yet. Do any of you have any experience with this Trijicon sight?

I think I need to expand my circle of friends.

Sanders, just like the hand full of H&K mags I was given (if you recall that thread), I was also give this sight before I aquired an AR to put it on. Luckily, I now also have that vital item, but that's going to be another thread.
I guess there are some people who mistakenly think I am deserving of such favours. Maybe I did a few things right in a previous life, and karma is now kicking in with some extra attention. |

That was one of the things I liked so much about "horse trading" guns and related stuff.
Gun for another "Gun and Stuff" would usually end with me saying, "I need just one for thing, to finish this deal, some kind of good knife. Whatcha got?" At the end of a few years I had a couple suitcases full of miscellaneous knives. Wife allways had the question, "What the hell are you ever going to DO with them?" Some became "small trade" items, others I disposed of over the Internet, later years. Now I'm down to one small box of "allmost" keepables. |

Yup that's why I don't like them and its also why they pretty much disappeared from US military service.Replaced by the Eotech's and Aimpoint's.

AKwarrior,
For just fooling around, it's obviously ok, but for serious use, I wouldn't be very comfortable with it knowing the problem I mentioned. I'm actually quite dissapointed that a company such as Trijicon produced something that has such a big downside. I suppose it could be used as a back up in addition to an Aimpoint or similar, since the Reflex doesn't rely on batteries. Something that could be stashed in a pocket or backpack. But definitely not as the main optic. |

Eric my buddies dad had on on his double rifles. I remember sighting it in for the old man. It held up to the recoil of a .500 N.E.. Looked out of place but it worked fine for a guy who's eye sight aint what it use to be. :dgnr:

I would think one of those would be a nice sight for a .22 rifle such as a Ruger 10/22.

I looked at the Reflex some years ago, standing in a gun store and aiming outside where it was a bright sunny day. After looking through it 4 or 5 times I told the store owner that I must not have the correct x-ray vision to find the dot. He as amazed that I could not find the dot and pointed out that the dot was easy to find when the sight was aimed at a mounted cape buffalo head.
Needless to say, I have not purchased one. |

All of Trijicon's fiber-optic illuminated sights have issues when aiming from darkness into light, because the brightness of the reticle depends on ambient light. With the ACOG and Accupoint, it's not as much of a problem because the non-illuminated reticle shows up black and therefore still usable. The unmagnified Reflex, on the other hand, completely washes out against a brightly lit background.

Despite the downsides mentioned, the Reflex sight is suitable for some uses due to it's simplicity: http://dirtydozensbunker.com/showthr...d=1#post583300
