S&W Airlite .44 Magnum
Has anyone shot one of these? I handled one at Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday and that sucker is LIGHT!
I can't imagine shooting the full-house 300 gr. loads I shoot out of my Super Blackhawk in it. It would be brutal! Overall, the gun just felt like a cheap piece of junk in my hands. It sure didn't feel like a $750 firearm the price tag said it was. I'd rather have a S&W Mountain gun than this one.

Well the Airlite is not meant to be a target gun. Or one your going to shoot bowling pins or falling plates with. It's meant to be carried a lot. Personally I'd carry one in the woods as a back up hunting revolver and a hiking companion. Then again I'd probably shoot one a lot too.

I like my S&W Mountain Gun, and my Ruger Flat Top. I really don't want a lightweight .44 magnum. I can't imagine that Airlite holding together after a lot of shooting with full load magnum cartridges.

I have shot my buddies S&W model 29 with 6" barrel standard weight with factory 240 grain SJHP loads it gets very hot very quickly and we have difficulty ejecting the spent shells from the cylinder.
IMO "airlight" and .44 Mag don't go together.

Ummm ..... No Thanks!
Mountain Gun was a GREAT idea, this is insane! 50 years of .44 mag in SBH and some DA have done more than enough damage to my hands and wrists, not to mention hearing. Actually a super lightweight .44 mag is a remarkably stupid idea, and fits my opinion of the current S&W offerings. .357 mag in a Derringer will put the bullet about where you wanted it at 5 feet and 4 feet high at 15 feet, due to recoil being just this side of impossible to hang on to. Muzzle flip and recoil are well under way before the bullet gets out of the tube. I cannot imagine any utility (other than suicide) for an ultra light .44 mag. NOT a fan of S&W products since their sell out to Klinton anyway, still waiting to see their formal withdrawel from that agreement, which AFAIK, has yet to happen. Just not being enforced at present, as I understand it. Trust those here to correct me if I'm mistaken. Regards, |
