Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Just loaded up Linux Mint 18.3 64bit into this old Dell desktop dual boot with Win7. It just came out of Beta.

It's a lot faster than the earlier versions.

OK, I'm diving into this now. Should I go with MATE or Cinnamon?

I found a great Youtube video that takes you step by step for doing a bootable USB drive. That way, it doesn't affect your copy of Windows. I figured that would give me a chance to play around with it to see if it's going to work. If it does, I'll save all my files and go exclusively with Linux. My Vista freezes so much it is almost un-usable.

I've downloaded the Linux Mint torrent, but it is still "seeding." Do I need to wait for that to finish to proceed?

Ok, moment of truth. Everything is done, but I can't get it to load. I get the Linux Mint logo on my screen and it says it's loading. But it doesn't load.

???

I'm trying to download a printer driver for my Brother printer and it's asking me if the Linux version I have is (deb) or (rpm).

I think I may have answered my own question. I was booting from the USB drive and I had other things plugged into the USB ports, such as mouse, cooling fan, printer ... etc. I unhook everything but the USB drive with Linux and it loaded.

Deb for the driver. You'll have the Archive Manager that you can install it from.

When you install mint do encrypt your drive partition and user directory etc. Enable SE Linux.

I kept having some troubles with Mate. When I was using office, or even other applications like Firefox, the cursor would randomly jump to other parts of the screen when I was typing. For instance, i would be typing a sentence, and then half way through, the second half of the sentence would start typing in the middle of another paragraph. So far with Cinnamon, i have not had any issues.

I checked to make sure I had a stable version and even updated it a time or two, but I kept having the magic cursor re=appearing where ever it pleased.
