Affordable Thermal Optics? Pulsar Core and Trail Systems—SHOT Show 2017
Beats $4,000 for similar items.
I'd rather have a thermal scope than a NVD, if I had to choose one or the other. The thermals they had for the Dragon anti-tank launcher was amazing. You could see someone's footprints on the dirt for several minutes after they had walked past, is how sensitive it was. You can't see someone hiding in the brush with NODs, but you can see them with thermals. They can also be used to look for hot spots in your house, if you suspect poor wiring. Quote:

I see lots of guys going to thermals on their hog rifles. Until I hit the lotto, I'll have to stick with my night vision. When I think what I've got tied up in night vision I think I'm committed to it.

This reminds me of why I hate consumer electronics. The shit just keeps changing & costing more. My best example of this is just think of all the different ways you have owned to play music!

I still respectively disagree with yah and think competition will eventually drive the price of these instruments down. Now just my .02 on that. Most early night vision did not go over to well and guys relied on their natural night vision. We were taught to not look direct but to use our peripheral vision and it did work much better.

Price is right, but you probably need to get an IR spotlight to go with it. |

An IR viewer would be a fine way to spot target if whatever you are using is mounted on a rifle. The viewing thru a rifle mount sucks like using binoculars when you really need a spotting scope! I'll just stick with my helmet mounted PVS-14 & DBAL on the rifle. |

Twice I had money set aside for some nice NGV but ended up using it for household expenses. Then I gave up. I hear the National Guard will loan you a pair if you need them.

I'm like the singer Roy Clark, he said before he became famous he was so broke that if someone were selling steamboats for a dollar all he could do was run up and down the bank yelling "ain't that cheap?" As much as I would like to have a Thermal Imaging Sight to mount on my Savage .270...all I can do is run up and down the river bank!
