Any opinions on a Leupold SX-1 Ventana 15-45x60mm Angled Spotting Scope
I'm thinking about getting one. I know it's not going to be the quality of a Swarovski or Zeiss. But I'm thinking it might be OK for a 200 yard range.
Anyone have one?

I bought a Swarovski AT-80 many years ago when I bought my McBros .50 bmg rifle. It's no longer made but a used one like mine might be very affordable & a better buy.

I might look around for a used one if I can see it before I buy it. Too many shysters and outright frauds on ebay and such.
The one thing about the Leupold I do like is the eye relief. That's a big thing with spotting scopes for use on a shooting range. The Leupold has a 24-27mm of eye relief. That's plenty for when you are wearing safety glasses. So many of the lower priced scopes have an eye relief of 12-15mm and you are always bumping your glasses on the eye piece. |

Awhile back if it had the name Leupold on it you where good to go. But anymore that's not true. I don't have one so I really can't comment, but if you can check it out before you buy it, go for it.

Too many counterfeits out there to buy a Leupold off ebay.
I'm happy with my Simmons spotting scope -- if I knew where it was.

Check out Kowa brand spotting scopes. my shooting partner has one. best spotting scope i ever used. You can get lots of different eyepieces for them. Angled viewing is sweet.

I'm wanting it for a maximum of 200 yards. That is the maximum distance at the range that is about 1/4 mile from my house. That's where I shoot most of the time since my buddy died. I figure that 15-45 power Leupold should be able to handle that unless it's a POS. |

Well....ya want good shit you gotta pay... I have a Bushnell Trophy that has given me good service. AB's Kowa spoiled me. I could see the bullet holes in the 600 yd target with it. That guy always gets top shelf stuff.

Kowa is supposed to be good
Check out some reviews http://www.opticsplanet.com/spotting...0&sort=default http://www.opticsplanet.com/leupold-...ing-scope.html A better place for reviews: One of the Bench Rest Shooter web site was where I was researching what guys liked when I was shopping. I was going to get a Konus. Was supposed to be best bang for the buck and very clear optics to see .22 holes out past 200 yards http://www.opticsplanet.com/konus-ko...ing-scope.html or http://www.opticsplanet.com/konus-ko...ing-scope.html

I was looking at the Bushnell Trophy. It's also in the price range I'm willing to spend. |
