Steam it, boil it, make a cheese and butter sauce. Makes your pee stink.

Pour some olive oil on it and grill it, good stuff. You want some burn marks on it for flavor.

I find the 'natural' snapping point, cut the bunch there, and then let them stand in a cup of sugar water overnight. Then I steam them til fork-tender and either serve them hot with butter and garlic or chill them, then drizzle with Italian dressing before serving.
Some people use a hollandaise, but that's too rich for my liking. cerberus |

There are a couple ways of prepping it. One is the snap method where it breaks free where its tender. The other is to peel part of the bases. Asparagus can get pretty woody @ the bases.
Steaming it then butter or Hollandaise are great. Wrapping it in thinly sliced prosciutto & little grilling it is great. Some like it wrapped in bacon & grilled(use thin bacon) My all time favorite is with Jarlsburg swiss, butter & wrapped in veal then grilled or sautéed. |

Wrap about 4 of them with bacon, then the whole thing wrapped in aluminum foil and grill it. If you boil it it's only for 2-3 minutes and into ice water to stop it from cooking.

So how bad did you asparagus turn out? By the way the white is far better stuff. Pickled aint bad and alway check the country of origin if you grab a can.

I bought the asparagus fresh in the produce section, no canned . Works good for a expert gourmet chef like me . |

As a kid we use to go out & pick it wild growing along rail road tracks. Lots of wild berries too.

How long do you grill it? Since it's wrapped in foil it would be hard to tell by sight when the bacon is done.

I really don't keep track of time, when I see bacon fat dripping from the foil I give it about 15 more minutes, I wrap the foil the long way and twist the ends, you can hear the bacon sizzling just keep turning it. The wife loves it. I've done it in the oven too but takes longer.

Personally I'm not a fan of certain things wrapped in bacon! Asparagus & sea scallops are prime examples. To me the bacon over powers them both. |
