Egg Nog!
It's that time of year again. I'm glad they don't sell he stuff year round, or I'd balloon up to 500 lbs. It is kryptonite to me. I can't resist it.
Drink it straight from the carton, or by the glass with some nutmeg sprinkled on it. Or as a mixer with some rum, brandy, or bourbon. I like it every way! I don't make it fresh, though. Except - I tried some egg nog flavored kefir. That was nasty. I do not recommend it.

Funny you brought this up, I was just looking up the recipe using real eggs to check how high the temperature could go while on a double boiler so I could make real one from scratch for Thursday.

Some things just naturally go together. Egg nog with a shot of bourbon is one of those great combinations. I love that stuff.

I bought a quart the other day. I love the stuff.
One of my granddaughters loves it like I do. When I give her a glass full she will chug it until it is all gone without taking a breath. She is 16 and has drunk eggnog that way since she was little.

Farm Stores had a good one, I don't like the one from Publix that much. I made some last year and came out really good so I'll make it again this year, I just looked up a recipe online that I liked and tried it. Of course, some alcohol gives it a little kick.

The Egg Nog that you buy always seems
a little rich to me, so I cut it about 50/50 with some milk...a person could cut it about the same with Bourbon I guess...... |

Love the stuff! Picked up two 1/2 gallon cartons the other day. Finished the first one this morning.
I'll buy a couple 1/2 gallons a week until they quit selling it again. For what they charge for the stuff, THAT should be considered a crime. |

Never cared for the stuff myself, but everyone else in my family loves it. My wife always picks up a carton or two for the Holidays.
I just stick with the rum, brandy, & bourbon part. |

Yeah Sanders, I'm the same way. Last year I found and tried a soy milk-based nog that was really pretty good. The same sugar but alot less fat.
Then I found a DIY recipe that uses Splenda, so it's sugar free but has the fat. Guess you gotta choose your hemlock. |

Here it is, out of "Fantastic Food with Splenda" by Marlene Koch. Bought the book for $1 at a thrift store just because it had this recipe.
3 cups 1% milk, divided 3 large eggs, well beaten 1 1/2 cups fat free half and half 2/3 cup granular Splenda 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon cornstarch 2 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1) In large saucepan, thoroughly whisk 1 cup of the 1% milk and the next 4 ingredients. Place on stove and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Remove from heat. 2) Stir in vanilla and nutmeg. Stir in remaining milk and cool. 3) Chill in refrigerator until served It says it serves 8, but the way I drink nog it serves 2! |
