Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default A cell phone isn't very useful out in the wilderness

A cell phone won't work most of the time, once you get off the beaten track.

That's why I just ordered a CB radio for my Xterra.

Amazon.com: Midland 1001LWX 40 Channel Mobile CB with ANL, RF Gain, PA, and Weather Scan: Car Electronics Amazon.com: Midland 1001LWX 40 Channel Mobile CB with ANL, RF Gain, PA, and Weather Scan: Car Electronics

I was going to get a Uniden of similar size, but what sold me on this one was that is has the NOAA weather alerts on it.

I also got a 4 ft. Fire Fly tunable antenna for it, a heavy spring, 18 ft. coaxial cable and a mounting stud.

I'll be mounting it on a tab built onto my rear bumper tire carrier.

It's probably a good idea to carry a small HAM radio like this one:

Amazon.com : Baofeng Black UV-5R V2+ Plus (USA Warranty) Dual-Band 136-174/400-480 MHz FM Ham Two-way Radio, Improved Stronger Case, Enhanced Features : Electronics Amazon.com : Baofeng Black UV-5R V2+ Plus (USA Warranty) Dual-Band 136-174/400-480 MHz FM Ham Two-way Radio, Improved Stronger Case, Enhanced Features : Electronics

With a HAM type radio, you can utilize repeaters to get the message out. If you have a HAM license and pay dues to a club, you can get the codes to their repeaters and make phone calls through them.

All the groups I go 4-wheeling with have CB's to keep in touch on the trail. Some runs require you have one.

Back to your cell phone. Are you using its GPS feature to navigate? When you get out of cell tower range, the GPS won't work without a tower signal. It's best to get a handheld GPS or, better yet, a FREE USGS map of the area you will go, and a compass or 3.

I still have the little box that you co-phase twin antennas with.
Probably a dozen, or more, antennas around here.
Should mount my old side bander in the pickup.
Just my luck some Mexican would steal it though.

I have a couple of BaoFeng transceivers. I also have a Yaesu F250.

The Yaesu puts out a lot stronger and clearer signal. But the BaoFengs will reach a tower up to about 10-15 on a good day if you can get line of sight.

I bought the BaoFeng HTs so that I could contact my grandsons when we went ATV riding.

I like the Yaesu HT better because the readout screen is on the top and I can read it while it is in a holster. And the Yaesu's case is made out of die-cast metal and it is waterproof.

I also have a CB and a FT-7900R 2 Meter / 70 cm Dual Band FM Transceiver that I can put in my car or truck.

If you buy any Ham band stuff I really recommend you not buy the cheapest available.

My Yaesu FT-7900R is made in Japan. I'm not sure where my Yaesu HT is made.

I had a CB about 20 years ago I put in my truck for traveling.

I noticed near truck stop areas there were "madams" hustling on the CB for prostitution.

Also Drug dealers and drugies use CBs to sell and get dope. Noticed that local.

The CB - the original internet, with all the bad to go with the good.
