Heinlein at Midwestcon II 1976
He doesn’t come out for eight minutes and he’s lucky he didn’t try to live by public speaking but he had almost died five or six years earlier, that may explain his less than dynamic style. I was wrong about this video, this is ten years after his last Hugo.
The hippies boo when he tells them there will always be another war. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...55&FORM=WRVORC

Sad that we lost his 'possible' future works.

His first effort was published after his death. FOR US, THE LIVING: A COMEDY OF CUSTOMS. It is more similar to his post STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND work than the stuff the public could handle in the 30s-50s. He anticipated livestreaming/web cam models before WWII!
It’s on YouTube. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...73&FORM=VRRTAP There is also an audiobook version of his EXPANDED UNIVERSE in the second part he, his wife and a naval officer arrive through three different methods at the conclusion that Moscow’s 1960 population was a mere 700,000 after inflated claims of millions. He was in Russia when Gary Francis Powers’ U2 came down (he says the wreckage resembles a crash rather than a shoot down) and details he and his wife’s exodus. He also gives a glimpse into the pre-counter culture mind. Something those of us born after Woodstock seldom encountered. The first half has three lesser-known works. ASSIGNMENT IN ETERNITY has the pre-quel to FRIDAY and a story describing 3-D printing/manufacture before WWII. |
