Catamount Fury 12 GA Shotgun
So I bought a Fury II and realized after taking the stock off and the magwell. I could have saved myself $120 by buying a Fury 1. Oh well.
So the first thing I did was demil the rear trunnion block because it doesn't allow the use of a standard AK stock. I ordered a Magpull side folding stock for this project, but I'm using my old take off Saiga stock for testing purposes. I then welded up the extra 4 axis pin holes for the old trigger group. And smoothed it out with a die grinder & orbital sander with 80 grit. Next step, I riveted in a standard AK rear trunnion which fits existing holes. I modified an AKM trigger guard by cutting off the portion of the mag release area and riveted it in place along with a Yugo pistol grip plate. Then I installed a Molot style pistol grip. I bought a few AGP Arms 10rd mags and modified the locking lugs and tapped 8/32 threads into the front trunnion & screwed in a piece of sheetmetal in the forward area of the magwell. This piece serves as a mag catch and now Saiga mags can be used in this shotgun. The G2 FCG I used had to be modified to work in this rifle. A 3/8" extension 'tang' was welded on the trigger assembly so it could engage the safety properly. Without the added length, it was too short to reach the safety. Also the hammer was reprofiled to allow enough freedom for it to articulate fully over the BHO/center support section and reach the firing pin. Also a bit of grinding was required to optimize the angle of the hammer as it strikes the firing pin. It probably would have worked fine as is...but I improved the angle with a small bit of grinding...then polishing. Here's what they look like unconverted: Here's what she looks like now after the AK conversion. It will need a good blasting and a finish. I'll show more picks once that is complete and the sidefolder is installed. |
