Wish I'd been there to watch - nephew's Garand purchase and first time out with it
Heard my nephew got a smoking deal on a 1998 Dodge 2500 4x4 with a Cummins diesel.
Guess a neighbor had a stroke and was getting rid of all his toys. He sold the truck to him for $7,000 and threw in a pristine M1 Garand. Only thing is, my nephew knew nothing about how to operate a Garand. The guy didn't give him any clips, either. So, I guess he was out with a buddy trying to shoot it and getting pretty frustrated. He came home and told his dad (my brother-in-law) what a piece of junk it was. Brother-in-law had some clips in a box out in his shop and told him to go get the box and bring it to him. Then they grabbed some more ammo and went back out to their shooting spot and my nephew learned how to load and shoot the Garand. I guess now it is his favorite rifle.

A truck with a Cummins and a Garand for 7K...not bad. That engine alone is $7K

I had a Garand that liked tossing the clip out after the first shot to hammer my head. I showed it, I didn’t let it knock any sense into me. Gave it to a guy with a Navy brother who took it to his swabby buddies and they fixed it. He’s had a bolt action, an AK and an AR and likes that Garand the most. I call the bitch Christine and don’t return any of her texts.
I think they feel a bit better than the M1A (had an M1, M1A, Mini-14 and M1 Carbine). That rifle just didn’t like me. Neither did my 1911. They are both in happier ‘forever’* homes and I’ve moved onto industrial metal and plastic David Lynch nightmare looking contraptions that actually resist rust and won’t swell with anticipation in 98% humidity. * Alas, like Pete outgrowing his dragon the owners will get old AF and FOAD leaving these odes to America’s glorious past homeless and looking for new custodians, unless some child molesting POS like Biden says, “Melt them down!”, and they are not immediately turned on said PsOS and their minions. Only you can prevent dentured, Depends wearing degenerates from destroying our material culture.

Good for him Sanders good grab. Sadly a lot of people are hurting due to this Chinese chicken flus work slow down and their are deals to be had out their. Cash is kind of king right now. I haven't touched an M-1 since basic. Not sure what hurt more my thumb jammed in the bolt or the D.I.s foot in my ass.

I really enjoy my half-breed Chinese M14. It is half Polytech and half USGI parts. The USGI synthetic stock makes it impervious to weather. It always reminds me of its Chinese roots whenever that TRW bolt slams forward with a *chink*.
Here it is doing duty on the border. Didn't have to shoot anyone, but the Expedition that was shadowing me on the mexican side changed their mind after seeing me with it. |

If Biden gets in that surplus Garand will be worth 7 grand just by itself in the near future.

Sanders sorry to get a bit off topic here but a quick question? Are those Mesquite trees behind you their?
I just bought a bag of pellets of Mesquite for my smoker and it ain't cheap down here. Up in New England it was worth its weight in gold. $$ |

You can order some mesquite lump charcoal on Amazon. At my elevation, mesquite doesn't grow, so if I want that flavor I have to buy the lump charcoal or smoking chunks or chips. Since that is all I pretty much knew, growing up, I've developed a taste for oak for smoking, and prefer it over mesquite. Oak isn't as bitter of a smoke to me. |
