Massive 7.85 Million Recall for Remington 700 Series Rifles
America's oldest gun manufacturer, Remington, has agreed to replace millions of triggers in its most popular product—the Model 700 rifle. The company has been riddled for years with claims the gun can fire without the trigger being pulled, often with deadly results.
A 2010 CNBC documentary, "Remington Under Fire: A CNBC Investigation," explored allegations that for decades the company covered up a design defect, which Remington continues to deny. But now, under a nationwide settlement filed Friday in a federal court in Missouri, the company is agreeing to replace the triggers in about 7.85 million rifles. I've always thought the bolt lock was a bad idea. Had an early (60s) 700 ADL discharge when I flipped the safety off once, years ago. No injuries, as I kept the muzzle pointed away from people, but, still.

Not all 700s are subject to recall. For instance, mine is not. You can check here to see if yours is

It sure took them a long time to do do this, I wonder if they will revisit some of the law suits that they claimed they were innocent of.

Good information but I don't own a 700.
I've looked and considered but lower tier competitors, Mossberg and Savage, to be exact were my choices. Cheap stuff compared but that's business in America. Never had a problem with a 700, again, never owned one. If these allegations are related to SWAT? They can afford accidental sniper incidents to cover other people's asses with renewed contracts. I've handled, fired a few 700's with no accidental fire. Lucky? It's the finger, not the trigger. JMHO Sure, absolutely, anything can go wrong. Pretty big recall, I don't trust Cnbc anymore than MSnbc. |

I checked my SN against the list and mine wasn't affected by the recall. Mine is the law enforcement Remington 700P with a heavy barrel in .300 Win Mag.
I had already re-adjusted the trigger pull anyway. And I put red Locktite on the adjusting screw.
