Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default Crown Question

I bought a pistol kit made from a Romy G. the barrel has been cut just infront of the part that the gas tube locks into. My question is i hear people talking about recrowning and stuff like that. Is this some thing i should consider on this? is it something i can do on my own or should i let a "real" gunsmith do it. I do have an account at Brownells if i need to order tools for it.

When you crown a barrel, you are just making sure that it has been cut straight. If your crown is crooked it can affect how the rifle shoots. Sometimes the end of the barrel is chamfered slightly just to knock off the rough edges.

That's pretty well the limit of my knowledge on the subject. I'm sure some of our experts will chime in with more.

I've crowned a barrel before. I used a screw-head (in a power-drill) and some grinding compound. It ain't rocket science, man. The method I used is kinda ghetto, but it does work.

MoonShiner has it right,

I've done the same and also use a Dremel tool (very, very, very gently.) with one of the ball grinder things.

But moonShiners way is better and safer.

All you are doing , once the barrel is square, is breaking the sharp edge of the bore where it meets the muzzle.

First thing to check on a firearm with accuracy problems, especially mil-surps.

You need the gas behind the bullet to leave the bore nice and evenly.

Otherwise it upsets the bullet and gives it a push off center.

Regards,

thanks for the heads up, also. I've been thinking about pistolizing a spare Romy kit, but don't really know where to get started. Anyone got any links to a walkthrough on cutting, crowning, and redrilling the gas port?
